It must take twice as long to reach a blackbelt I imagine. I mean you'd still have to learn Judo,JJ,wrestling, striking and everything else right?

Fuck Greg Jackson. This jackass actually invented his own martial art called Gaidojutsu. How many times have you heard Rogan talk about the importance of Gaidojutsu? What skills does Greg Jackson actually have? Dude is perpetrating the biggest fraud imaginable. He affiliates himself and sends his guys to gyms and trainers like Phil Nurse (Muay Thai), Mike Winkeljohn (kickboxing), Renzo Gracie (Jiu Jitsu) and until recently Mike Von Arsdale (wrestling) and takes all the credit.
Trying to have a belt system in MIXED martial arts makes no sense. What the hell would it even mean to have a black belt in MMA?! Mixed martial arts is essentially nothing more than a fancy way of saying anyone who wants to get in the cage and fight can fight. It's not a discipline in and of itself. If someone wants to learn a complete blend of self defense they can train in Russian Systema or Krav Maga. There's no way someone can train in "MMA" as a discipline and develop a complete game. That's why the top guys have multiple teachers and trainers in boxing, muay thai, jiu jitsu, etc... Unless you have a staff of experts in all of those disciplines, the "trainer" can't possibly teach all the techniques necessary in MMA because there are few people in the world who have enough experience to teach all those aspects of MMA. This sounds like some bullshit designed to trick douchebags that want to be able to say, "I've got a black belt in MMA" into shelling out money. |

I don't know that we need belts as labels on something just for the sake of having the label. Just because other arts have belts doesn't mean we need to create new ones for the ever-evolving sport of MMA.

IMO, belts are only good for holding pants up. If you're training the various arts that make up MMA, you'll have enough of an appreciation to know that one belt can't encompass the mastery of JJ, boxing, Muay Thai, etc. whatever...this is America, let this fucker get the money however he can
