Post Torture Films

I'm looking for contemporary Arthouse or cult or just "unknown in the mainstream" type of torture films. Some call these movies "torture porn". Now I'm NOT looking for nasty and gory B-rated flicks with bad acting and are going to gross me out. I'd like to fine well-made psychology thrillers/torture films with good acting, may have some known stars or character actors in them, and has a good budget, and are films that just from start to finish involve people being cruel to others, and are hard to watch, and are bound to make you uncomfortable, depressed, and uneasy. Here's a small list of films that fit that subject:

1. Jailbait

2. Hard Candy

3. Wilderness

4. Funny Games

5. Eden Lake

6. Farmhouse

7. Stoic

8. I Spit On Your Grave

Hard Candy made me feel pretty uneasy, especially a certain scene. I also screened it for two young female friends of mine, and the mood was very dark, and they were pretty shocked by it. I almost regretted showing them it because it the vibe is so depressing, but they enjoyed it. And I thought Hayley, the female character was pretty damn mean to the male character, Jeff through most of the film. So mean that I actually felt bad for a pedophile.

I really enjoyed Hard Candy and I Spit on Your Grave (I'm assuming the 2010 version?).

Anyhow, my addition to this thread:

The only torture movies I've seen, if they are considered torture films, are Saw I-V.

Seriously, how do you get "into" torture movies? I don't get disturbed watching them, but I sometimes think to myself "Why am I watching this?" It makes me question myself as a human being.

Also, nobody here mentioned the french film Inside. Never seen it, just read about it.

To me, the term 'torture movie', or 'torture porn' as it's more commonly known as, is completely unnecessaray. It shouldn't have to be a case of 'feeling bad for watching this' or "why am I watching this?". It's a movie.

I can be as easily 'entertained' by a movie based on one guy torturing another, as I am a movie about one guy chasing after and finally getting the girl of his dreams.

It doesn't make me sick or fucked in the head or anything. Not every movie has to be about a guy chasing a girl or a guy saving the world or an alien invasion etc. I don't condone any kind of torture in real life, but then, I don't go up to complete strangers and celebrate when they've hooked up with someone they love, either.

It's fictional characters put into fictional situations. Take the Hostel movies for example. A secret angency where the wealthy bid on people to torture and kill. I find the story here to be quite interesting to be honest. Of course, the movie then follows certain characters, and how they either die or manage to escape this group of sadists. People may criticise this movie for being sick, or may question themselves as human beings for watching such material, but then will have no problem watching a guy in a hockey mask decapitate teenagers with a machete.

I think it really comes down to sadomasochism being somewhat of a taboo fetish, and so when people see it in movies they associate it with something they 'shouldn't enjoy'. I'm not sadomasochistic, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a movie involving torture. And that's 'enjoy' as in 'being entertained', not 'getting turned on and becoming an S&M fanatic'.

It's just a movie.

Kind of on a related subject here, but I'm still looking for a movie to completely fuck me up. Whether it's the most goriest horror, or the most intense, psychological thriller, I want a movie that'll make me feel legitimately sick, scared, uncomfortable etc.

Films like the Hostel movies, which were labeled as 'the sickest movie of all time' were pretty weak in my opinion (though I did enjoy the story). The torture scenes in Ichi The Killer were pretty nasty, but nothing I couldn't stomach. Braindead was pretty awesome for gore, but not enough to make me lose my lunch. Hell, I can watch Cannibal Holocaust with no problems. The rape scene in I Spit on Your Grave was pretty intense, but nothing I couldn't get through. The following kill scenes were awesome, though. The Evil Dead movies were mad unnerving, but... you get the idea...

Any recommendations?

P.S. Not looking for any snuff movies though. I know that KINDA contradicts Cannibal Holocaust... whatever...

Human Centipede 2 was pretty 'weak' in my opinion. Brown sauce oozing out of prosthetic asses and splashing towards the camera was pretty tame. Probably would have had more impact if it was in colour. Overall, terrible movie that failed to live up to it's 'hype'.

Not really my type of film. Again, too much gore and other gross stuff being put on film for the sake of it or just to be nasty is stupid to me. I need good acting, a good story, and I need my imagination to fill in all the holes.

There are two films I recently discovered that I'm going to watch soon that look good and fit into what I am looking for - "The Cottage". That's about these two guys who kidnap a girl and take her to some farm to hurt her, but she gets away, and then it turns out all three people are in for a surprise - There's a psycho out there who plans to hunt all three of them.

There's another film I can't recall at the moment. It's on my Netflix, but it's a lot like "Funny Games". And Funny Games is a good example of what I'm talking about. It's not a nasty film or graphic film at all, but it makes you feel miserable.

Devil's Rejects, Dumplings, Or better yet, this one: It's a Korean live version of Manhunt with PIGGY!!

I am not kidding cos the plotline is much like the Manhunt game, a director looking for victims in his latest snuff film.. I think I just found a Korean live version of that mad director Starkweather!!!
