Wrestling Game Essay
If any of you guys are interested in helping me out, I'm currently writing an essay for university where I have to critically appraise the design of a video game.
I've decided to do mine on the current WWE series, from Smackdown! to WWE12. Gonna reference other Wrestling games too, like DoR with it's "Break any move at any time" system. gonna mention how the games went from being crazy fun and over the top with wrestlers diving from helicopters to trying to be realistic and more like the show, sacrificing the fun factor IMO. You should mention briefly how WWF SmackDown!: Just Bring It was the only game in the SmackDown! video game series to date to have featured matches with 8 wrestlers in the ring at once.

- Talk about how it is for the most part, one of the most community driven game series ever. Every year they try, for better or worse, to address fan expectations and criticisms.
- You could to mention Just Bring It, Here Comes The Pain, SvR 2007, and SvR 2010 for their biggest boosts in design and presentation. - Mention how the series usually made strong attempts at single player modes. One of them had a first-person arena sandbox ffs. - Mention how DLC altered their delivery and longevity of iterations. - Mention the in-house competition (AKI), and how they have influenced the Smackdown! series up until it went multiplatform. - Strange things like seemingly avoiding whoever was the tag champs were that year (something that happened a lot). - How the historical industry events altered the series (WCW buyout, ECW acquisition, Attitude Era, Crossover Era, PG Era). - How motion controls fared on Wii versions. - What about the series may appeal to general gamers (great, violent, customizable multiplayer). - What about the series may appeal to loyal WWE fans (presentation, roster). - Perhaps speak about its signature "Create-A..." modes. - Where the series can go from here. |

Lol I handed it in last week...
Only had 2000 words to play with so decided to only really talk about singles matches and the overall look of the game. Said how the graphics fall short compared to most sport games. Also said about how the game feels scripted with all the signature moments and other hotspots. Said about DoR and how it was so unpredictable. |
