Who is your sporting idol?
Mine has always been Dominik Hasek. Man is a legend and one the best to ever play the game. Sad he never won a Cup with Buffalo and the thought of the 1999 cup final incites a terrible anger inside me.
I hope Hanso doesn't hate me for mentioning that. ![]() Quote:

Mario Lemieux. Joe Sakic. Raymond Bourque.
Mario Lemieux is just the one that captured my imagination the most when I was young. I really believe he's the best of all-time, just that his career was too short. As a player, I've been both center and defense. Sakic and Bourque were the players I tried to pattern myself after. Sakic was a team player first and foremost, always going for what was best for the team instead of individual glory. He also had a wicked wrist shot which could take everyone by surprise. Bourque is pretty much the perfect balance between offense and defense. Orr was the ultimate offensive defenseman, but Bourque could also check hard and take care of anyone who would step in front of his net. On the offensive side, I don't know if anyone ever had a more precise shot than him. |

I've always admired David "The Admiral" Robinson, of the San Antonio Spurs.
He was the ultimate professional, a team leader, a winner, and more importantly, a family man. |

Nah just kidding.
This is a tough one. I dont think I "idolize" any athlete. At least not one from modern days. From reading so many books on him, Joe DiMaggio is probably the closest. Just everything good about sports right there. |

Probably Pedro Martinez. Dominating the shit out of the steroid era batters. The one-hitter against the Yankees, Striking out Sosa/McGuire in the 1999 All Star Game, throwing Don Zimmer to the ground and winning the World Series in 2004.

![]() I'd also throw Eli Manning in there from the Giants side. Dude stays remarkably cool and collected. My idols from the previous era (late 90's/early 00's) for my two favorite teams were Mike Piazza and Michael Strahan. |

John Barnes, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Sami Hyypia, Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina.
Others as well that were before my time but those are the ones that I've grown up with/watched live in my lifetime. |

Has to be Shane Williams. Will arguably go down as the biggest legend of Welsh rugby and I'm so glad to have had the privilege of growing up with him. I grew up always hearing about the Welsh greats of the 70's and now my generation will forever harp on about Shane.

When I think of Pedro Martinez, for some reason I always think of the 1999 ALDS when he surprisingly came out of the bullpen against the Cleveland Indians and pitched 6 no-hit innings. Mainly because those Indian teams were powerhouses, and he just dominated them.
