Your thoughts on Kenzo Suzuki

I know its his first match but your thoughts?

Being he took on Scotty 2 Hotty where all newbies get to whoop on him for the hell of it, I really wasnt to impressed. I also was expecting a martial arts japanese fighter....Im not to sure what Kenzo is.

It's not that the guy won't have skills, potential, whatever...

It's just that no-one who wants to wrestle should ever sign for WWE.
Look at AJ Styles, Low Ki, etc.
None of these guys should sign up with Vince & Co, basically because they'll go nowhere.

WWE have a history of wasting talent recently, and the reasons that they give are variations of 'Creative didn't quite know what to do with them'

I give Kenzo Suzuki a year before we're on this site going 'WTF happened to that guy?'

Yeah I also thought he was much bigger than that also. He wasn't bad in the ring, and of course it was only his first match so you can't really judge it. He better have some good mic skills though, because unfortunately, unless he becomes funny and gets a run for a few months (a la Funaki), then he's gonna disappear faster than JBL's credibility.

I dunno. Kinda meh. Granted, it was his debut match and it was against S2H so I'll give him time. I read that he doesn't speak english (or very much anyway) and his wife (the woman who came out with him I believe) acts as a translator for him so I dunno what they says for his mic work.

I wasn't too impressed at all...
He looked really ackward in the ring and I just didn't really like any of his moves (the chops to the neck or the stolen Christopher Daniels move he used to finish of Scotty... just with a palm in the face variation). He's definitely a dud~! I'll never understand why the WWE continues to bring in new talent when they have plenty now that could carry the ball.

Mr. Suzuki was OK for his first televised match. The one thing that was interesting was the entrance and his look. He just looked intense. It was pretty much the same stereotype we've seen before but not too wacky (though the geisha kinda pushes it).
Hope this guy is as good as people say he is, even if he is wrestling for WWE,home of potential great wrestlers wasted by the power of the hoss.

Just to clarify, what Suzuki did was a varation of an STO, a move that was done long before Daniels started doing it. So he did not ripoff Daniels.

I'm.... borderline impressed.
He's a great preformer, but he needs to have a match VS someone who's not Scotty 2 Hotty. It would have been better if he could wrestler someone credible like Hardcore Holly. Let's build him up, give someone to talk for him, and hope for the best for this new guy on the roster.

i wasnt too impressed with him... he does have some good moves but they r pushing him some what as a wrestler with martial arts moves and they made a point to talk about it.... i think that his character might get stale but so far i think he could have a u.s. title run within the next few months or he could always join akio and the other guy in the next few months... we will have to see though if he can wrestle with the better memebers on the smackdown roster

I dont see him etting the U.S. title in the next few months. i beleive the title is going to switch hands at The Great American Bash. Like Mordecai, Kenzo has to establish himself in the WWE. Im not sure, but I think Kenzo is in the cruiserweight division, although he seemed Kinda tall. Also isnt it weird that both Mordecai and Kenzo debuted against Scotty 2 Hotty?

Kenzo's 6'3, 230 pounds. Not exactly a cruiserweight.

And like WWKD said, that finisher is a slight variation of the STO (forgetting the Japanses name). It looks like they're playing it safe, because that is a BRUTAL move if hit right and Kenzo's looked more like a lazy Rock Bottom.

STO = a slightly modified oosotogari, if it isn't just the same move. I think in an actual oosotogari you don't fall down with the opponent.

but yep, that's an STO...and after what Funky Fly said, it brought a question to mind I had about the Rock Bottom. By now it's definitely fallen into its own as a wrestling move, but it seems to have evolved (as far as elevation goes) over the years in some respects. In the Smackdown video games, some of those STOs (especially STO2, and STO3...used by Brock Lesnar, that looks much more like a clothesline into a Rock Bottom than a regular STO) resemble Rock Bottoms. Is The Rock Bottom more influenced by the STO or Hiroshi Hase's Uranage suplex / Yokozuna's Sambo suplex?

I always thought it was based on the Sambo suplex, but I can see where the oosotogari/STO comparisons come from.

Funny that Scotty gets buried to put over two noobies in two months.

Anyway, I really liked the entrance, but if he hates Americans, why does he trust white people to carry his carriage?

I think the gimmick might work, though the match did nothing for me. He didn't really show anything other than he can chop with his hands. I'd rather him take over Kyodai and really do the Yakuza thing though.

If you ever played any of the numerous Street Fighter II games, the throw move Chun-Li does (and the move they gave her ever since the start of the series) has been the STO, which is kind of what Kenzo did. It's been a pretty common wrestling move that has a huge impact factor if done right. It is supposed to appear to be hurting the back area mostly. But if you want a firm example of what the STO looks like, play Chun-Li on SFII and use the move a few times and you will reconize it in no time.

As for Kenzo, I was hoping for a little more, but we should give it some time. He was against S2H, as people said, who has become the recent resident jobber on SD. He needs a match with a currently established star on the show right now to get more crediability. It didn't impress, but it didn't disappoint, either. Give it a few weeks, THEN we can talk.

But does anyone have a pic of that "wife" that was with him, and is she really his wife or just his wife in the storyline? She looked EXTREMLY hot!

I'd say the rock bottom is a little bit of both. Back when he first started using it, he got very little hight, basically barely lifting up his opponent and driving him down. Now it's looks more like a modified Sambo suplex though...

As far as what STO means in Japan, I know it stands for Space Tornado Ogawa, but beyond that I can't help you.

Kenzo Suzuki could be a blessing in disguise. Maybe now he's in the WWE, the joking about Japanese wrestlers will stop. I wouldn't mind seeing Kyo Dai and Funaki join up with him as a credible stable. BTW, was his wife with him on SmackDown!? They could get him cheap heat by having her talk for him, saying Kenzo can only speak Japanese, as it should be the true language of the world or something.

I'd say poor mans Kobashi witht he way he was using those chops. I actually expected him to go for an orange crush when he was lifting up scotty for the suplex.

Now there's a finisher.

Anyway, give him time. Like I said, hes only been pro for 4 years.

Then perhaps he should go to OVW and train some more.

Yeah...I think him joining Kyodai as the leader of the "Yakuza"-esque stable would be cool. Sorta like the Japanese FBI (yes, I am aware that Jimmy Yang, who is "Akio" is Chinese)...that would kick total ass. Suzuki in a suit would be badass...but right now he is being pushed like a poor man's Tajiri.

I think that was indeed his wife with him, and that she appeared twice in Smackdown. Once as the "geisha", later as one of Chavo Classic's "ladies".
