Main Event result

Tensai /w/ Brodus Clay defeated Titus O'Neill /w/ D Young. Tensai and Clay danced afterwards.

Quite possibly the most unlikely tag tean I have ever seen. Regardless, Tensai is the good and him dancing was my favourite part of Raw.

I feel so bad for Albert/Tensai. He was a monster over in Japan, he comes here, and now he's been reduced to this.

It's not like he's got a whole lot of upside, because he's just not that good, but still.

They should've made him a member of The Shield or Punk's bodyguard or something.

Well.... it's hard to feel bad for somebody for finding a booking in the WWE. I think the Tensi character wasn't working as "Mega Monster" so they repackaged him as a comedic act. He can always "snap" and go back to heel at any time (like they did before when he teamed with Scotty 2 Hotty)

I laughed my ass off at the lingerie segment. If they're just gonna use Tensai as a jobber he's much more entertaining like this. Whenever they wanna make him a threat again just change him back

Very few "monster" type guys have lasting power. They're generally limited in what you can do with them, so they're best utilized demolishing people, looking like a threat, and then being vanquished by a face.

Even Big Show and Mark Henry had to go through comedy face stints.

Think the problem with Tensai was how quickly the WWE dropped all real interest with him so he never really had a good chance to develop his "monster" character. Also didn't help the WWE decided to just focus on Ryback for their "big man" focus which also ended up hurting Brodus.

I guess they could turn him into a super heavyweight giant who knocks people the fuck out...damn.

I guess they could put a mask on him and make him a super heavyweight chokeslamming badass who can get around the ring despite his size...oh right.

He's in the same boat Brodus was in...they're dancing or they don't have a spot right now. They could successful as a tag team for awhile, at least.

Well, there's that then. They tried as hard as they could to keep Albert from going back to his comedy roots, but I suppose it was inevitable.

I was excited about Albert coming back to the WWE. I'd heard a lot about what he was doing in Japan and was hoping that WWE could make use of their newly evolved returning employee.

The problem with the way they handled the Lord Tensai debut was that it just doesn't fit into today's landscape. Lots of people complain that today's superstars don't have anything interesting about them - they're just cookie cutter, good looking, six-pack and monster pec having athletes in underwear. And in most cases, that's true. I can name examples in Kenny Dykstra, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Alex Riley, Curt Hawkins, Drew McIntyre, Michael McGillicutty, etc. But nobody is complaining about the lack of colorful, outrageous characters that WWE paraded through their ring in the 90's: the Doinks, the garbage men, the canadian mounties and IRS men. Those days are dead and gimmicks like that just don't work anymore (look at the Boogeyman, the Pirate guy - Umaga is the only one that has really been successful in the past decade).

You need to find a middle ground. With Tensai, they didn't go for the middle ground - they went for the full on gimmick, with a Japanese assistant and the long flowing Japanese gown and all of that, and nobody bought it.

They could have just brought him in and built him up with his real history. Here's a guy who used to be in the WWE and back then he ran over people and had wars with some of the best (Undertaker, Lesnar, Mysterio, etc). He's been in Japan for several years and has come back to the WWE as a polished and dangerous warrior. It's real, it's gritty, it doesn't insult the long-time viewer's intelligence by suggesting that we don't recognize A-Train/Albert, and it makes him look like a real world, legitimate threat. Not some hokey gimmicked pro wrestler.

The gimmick was going to be limited anyway. The guy doesn't talk much and his manager obviously doesn't talk much. They were going to build him up as a real monster (giving him wins over Cena and Punk in his first couple months), but even then, the only place he could go is down, as there's no room for his character to evolve and grow.

Like I said, it's a shame what happened to A-Train/Albert/Lord Tensai/Tensai. Just another failed gimmick attempt to throw on the pile.

I've always liked Albert and his ability. It seemed like he didn't get a lot of respect because had a lot of back hair.

But, I must say that I'm not a fan of this tag team. First off, I don't like Brodus Clay in the role he was given. Had he just remained as the dominate heel had been playing just a few weeks before his debut, this team would be so much better.

The downfall for Albert was the Tensai gimmick. There wasn't depth to it. He should have just came back as Albert and ran through people. If they formed a team between Albert and Clay with both being bad asses it would be much more interesting.

I don't want to say they would be similar to Demolition, maybe more of an APA where they were a feared team in the tag division. In every era, there seems to be a team that fits that mold.

Instead, they will be a comedy duo and last less than six months, I'd imagine.

I think they could form a decent team, like I said in another thread they're not exactly setting the world on fire as singles competitors, plus they'll need a new odd couple tandem when team Hell No split.

He does actually have a bit of a point, god help me.

He was putting on great tag matches and a lot of great singles matches in njpw. He's capable of so much more. When they have given him a bit more time in his matches they've been really fun to watch. His matches with shaemus and kofi for example.
