I watched a shoot interview with Dutch Mantell. He's a pretty funny dude. I do feel like the WWE is blatantly trying to get some kind of mainstream media coverage for his character and the "edgy racial overtones" in his promos.

They need his controversy right now. It is new, and SOME people will actually be able to tie it into the "real world" everyday happenings.

I was honestly surprised that he was allowed to say what he said in a "PG" environment. Hopefully, kneejerk happy parents won't complain about it and they can drag it out long enough for Swagger to rebuild his character.

Never cared for him before, but his new schtick is gold.

I notice Alex Jones has been receiving more attention from the mainstream lately. First an AP article on federal munitions purchases (mostly for "training" purposes) mentioned him last week, Lawler namedropped him on live TV, and today Ryan Clark posted a press release from the InfoWars website maintained by Jones. He's gained traction!

He's not getting good mainstream attention, though.

If anything, he's hurting the Tea Party movement, and in a broader sense, the GOP. Personally I think he should go away and never come back.

The website Twitchy, run by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, also did its part to push the narrative that the WWE was engaging in partisan propaganda by insinuating that a couple of its villains are Tea Partiers.

In an email to The Hollywood Reporter, the WWE didn’t confirm or deny that the characters represent the Tea Party, only that the storyline represented "current events." Nor did it indicate a willingness to alter its scripts based on partisan complaints.

“WWE has a long history of creating fictional characters that serve as either protagonists or antagonists, no different than other television shows or feature films,” said Brian Flinn, WWE’s senior vp marketing and communications. "To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines.

“WWE is creating drama centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view to develop a rivalry between two characters," he adds. "This storyline in no way represents WWE’s political point of view. One should not confuse WWE’s storytelling with what WWE stands for, similar to other entertainment companies such as Warner Bros., Universal Studios or Viacom.”

It's funny though, because I thought liberals, particular Latino civil rights groups, would be more pissy about it than conservatives considering the fact that it's known that Vince & Co. are Republicans. I look at it as them trying to incite liberals complaining about it not being PC.
