Name your favorite movies that we may not have heard of

List some movies that you love that most people probably haven't seen or heard of and tell us why we should watch it. I am looking for some good "overlooked" movies, so gimme some.

Here are a few movies that I love that the casual movie-goer might not have seen or heard of. These are all great flickssssss. If you click on the titles, it will give you more info on them, either their IMDb page or a topic I already posted.

Ken Park - The most sexually graphic non-porn movie ever. They show everything. A guy eating an older woman out, a guy masturbating til he cums, a stepdad sucking his stepson's cock, ETC. It's not that great plot-wise, but hey, it's entertaining to watch with a group of people who aren't easily offended. From the director of Kids.

Bully - Also from the director of Kids. Based on a true story. Naive teenagers plot to murder one of their own, who has been too much of a bully to them.

Freaks - A woman plans to marry a sideshow midget and murder him for his money. The other "freaks" find out and plan their revenge.

Funny Games - A family moves into a cabin and two young guys decide to torture them for their own amusement.

In the Company of Men - Two guys decide to play a cruel joke on a deaf co-worker by both pretending they are in love with her.

Welcome to the Dollhouse - Dark comedy. Insightful look at an unattractive 7th grader as she struggles to cope with un-attentive parents, snobbish classmates, a smart older brother, an attractive younger sister, and her own insecurities.

Happiness - The best movie EVER. Just a bunch of really messed up stories intertwined.

Storytelling - Todd Solondz, director/writer of the two movies above. College and high school serve as the backdrop for two stories about dysfunction and personal turmoil.

Show Me Love - A shy girl is in love with a popular girl at a high school. I love this movie so much.

Lilja 4-ever - Most powerful movie I have ever seen. A young girl is deserted by her parents and her life turns to shit.

Together - From the director/writer of the two movies above. Basically, the lives of a group of people all living together in one house in the 1970s. So good.

Eraserhead - Creepiest movie ever.

Paths of Glory - Most powerful war movie ever. When soldiers in WW1 refuse to continue with an impossible attack, their superiors decide to make an example of them.

And Justice For All - Young Al Pacino. When a corrupt judge is charged with rape, Arthur Kirkland must defend him. Kirkland has had problems with the judge in the past.

Blood Simple - A rich but jealous man hires a private investigator to kill his cheating wife and her new man. First Coens brothers movie. Rules.

Barton Fink - In 1941, New York intellectual playwright Barton Fink comes to Hollywood to write a Wallace Beery wrestling picture. Just a weird, weird movie.

Living in Oblivion - Steve Buscemi plays a director trying to make a low budget movie but everything goes wrong.

Bound - Wachowski Brothers' first movie. Corky, a tough female ex con and her lover Violet concoct a scheme to steal millions of stashed mob money and pin the blame on Violet's crooked boyfriend Caeser.

Abre Los Ojos - Original movie that Vanilla Sky was remade from.

You Can Count on Me - A single mother's life is thrown into turmoil after her struggling, rarely-seen younger brother returns to town.

Amores Perros - A horrific car accident connects three stories, each involving characters dealing with loss, regret, and life's harsh realities, all in the name of love.

Y Tu Mama Tambien - In Mexico, two teenage boys and an attractive older woman embark on a road trip and learn a thing or two about life, friendship, sex, and each other.

Straw Dogs - A man moves to England to escape the violence of America, but finds it even more violent. He is pushed and pushed by a group of guys, and eventually fights back.

Top Secret! - Hilarious Naked Gun-like comedy that for some reason never got big. It's more of a cult classic. Also Val Kilmer's first movie.

They Live - Another cult classic. Starring Roddy Piper Pretty creepy visuals IMO. Sometimes older movies can be creepier than newer movies with a bunch of special effects and crap.

The Dead Zone - GREAT movie. Right up there with The Green Mile as the best Stephen King movie. Walken and Sheen are both great. Haven't seen the TV show but I'm guessing if you like it, you'll LOVE this.

National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 - Another Naked Gun-type movie. Not as good as Top Secret IMO but still really quite funny.

Maverick - I remember when this was my favorite movie years ago. You don't even have to like westerns (which I don't). Just a great all around movie.

Clean Slate - All my friends don't like this movie. I think it's well made and Dana Carvey is the man. Gave it an 8 on IMDB.

High School High - (See Loaded Weapon and Top Secret) Again, not as good as Top Secret, but funny still.

Cannibal: The Musical - You need to be really into Trey Parker and Matt Stone and/or into the whole making of movies to enjoy this. Low budget Trauma movie. It's pretty funny at times. The low-budgetness actually makes it more enjoyable. The opening cannibal scene is hilarious.

Orgazmo - Another one where it helps to be a Trey Parker fan. Pretty funny.

Deconstructing Harry - I'm not really a Woody Allen fan but this one was pretty enjoyable. It's kinda weird at times but it's a funny weird.

The Big One - Michael Moore's second documentary. I didn't enjoy Bowling For Columbine like others seemed to have but this one is entertaining and even funny.

Another Day In Pardiase - Directed by Larry Clark.
The Warriors - 70's gang movie.

Dogville - A woman on the run from the mob is reluctantly accepted in a small Colorado town. In exchange she agrees to work for them. As a search visits town, she finds her their support has a price. Yet her dangerous secret is never far away...

Battle Royale - A group of students are sent to an island where they are forced to kill each other until only one of them is left alive. Everyone loves this movie. I thought it was good, not great, but everyone else might love it. Great premise.

Summer of Sam - Spike Lee's take on the "Son of Sam" murders in New York City in the summer of 1977.

Raising Victor Vargas - A Lower East Side teen-ager struggles to find some sanity while surrounded by an eccentric grandmother, a crazy new girlfriend, and a longing younger brother.

Boxing Helena - David Lynch's daughter's first and only movie. A man is in love with a woman, whose legs he cuts off and keeps hostage in his home.

Elephant - Artsy movie that observes a highschool during a school shooting.

The Impostors - Kind of like a modern slapstick comedy about two out of work actors who are hiding from the drunk, angry lead actor of a play, because he swore to kill them for criticizing him about his acting. They end up on a ship, which he is also on, and the captain's first mate is planning to blow up the ship. Sounds kind of stupid but I was ROFL at some points. Oliver Platt, Stanley Tucci, Steve Buscemi, Tony Shalhoub.

King TIL does not have that much rep yet (10+)
Bringing Out the Dead--I'm not sure how popular this is, but it seems to get overshadowed by the rest of Scorsese's catalogue.

The Hidden--Badass opening, pretty good the rest of the way.

House of Games--Supercool Mamet. Lead actress sucks, though.

The Limey--Stylish Soderbergh, starring Terrence Stamp, Luis Guzman, and Peter Fonda.

Mad Dog and Glory--Role reversal for Bill Murray and Robert DeNiro.

Manhunter--The original Hannibal Lecktor movie. Michael Mann .

Mean Streets--See "Bringing Out the Dead". SE DVD is coming out soon.

The Player--Great Altman satire with Tim Robbins as a studio exec.

Roger Dodger--Funny. Elizabeth Berkley and Jennifer Beals are great in their supporting roles.

Short Cuts--Only Robert Altman could juggle 17 lead characters so effectively.

To Live and Die in L.A.--One of Friedkin's great movies (as opposed to "The Hunted").

FUCK YEAH!!!!

*ahem* Anyways.....

Gojira-Mosura-King Ghidorah: Daikaiju Soukougeki When most people (myself included) think of Godzilla movies, they think of ultra-cheesy "so bad it's good" rubber monsters beating each other up in cardboard cities. Kaneko's GMK is a whole world apart from its campier relatives; not only is it good by Godzilla-movie standards, it's just a good movie period. Its message against Japan's culture phasing out and forgetting its roots is really well done, and the acting (by the Japanese cast, anyways) is superb compared to the old movies. Plus, the monster fights in this one are just SICK. Kaneko did something no one has been able to do since the very first one back in '54: he made Godzilla scary again. Seriously, he's a mean motherfucker in this one. Anyways, rent the DVD, watch it with subtitles (instead of the shitty dubs) and be happy.

The Ruttles Though nowhere near as famous as Holy Grail or Life of Brian, Monty Python's mockumentary spoofing the Fab Four is absolutely hysterical.

Dog Soldiers I know Danny Electric already mentioned this, but I want to mention it again because it kicks so much ass. Think Aliens meets The Howling, only cooler than that sounds. If you like Werewolf movies, this one's a must.

You know that the "Retard Fight" between Jimmy and Timmy on South Park was blow for blow the same as a fight scene in that movie..

Essex Boys - Just loads of crime and shit, but its really decent storyline, well thought out, and very realistic.

I was thinking of buying a David Lynch box set, but I didn't know what Eraserhead was like, my teacher has the uncut version of it and he reckons its quality, I might buy it next month.

Most of you guys probably know this movie, but surprisingly when I mention it in conversation elsewhere nobody has even heard of it.

The Salton Sea - After the murder of his beloved wife, Danny Parker (Val Kilmer) is set adrift in a world where nothing is as it seems. On his journey he befriends slacker Jimmy the Fin (Peter Sarsgaard) and becomes involved in rescuing his neighbor Colette (Debra Kara Unger) from her own demons. Danny is antagonized by undercover narcotics agents (Anthony Lapaglia and Doug Hutchison) and sadistic dealer Pooh Bear (Vincent D'Onfronio)

Tango & Cash

Cool, 80's style buddy cop flick. Stallone and Russel make a great team.

Men at Work

Not really one of my favorites, but a fun movie that may not be well known. Estevez & Sheen, funny moments.

The Hunted (1995)

Christopher Lambert film about ninja in modern Japan

Red Heat

Quite possibly my favorite Schwarzenegger action movie.

Over the Top

One of Stallone's less commercially successful films, but I find it enjoyable. It's a prime example of an 80's movie.

The Castle- Movie about a naive Australian family whose house is near the airport and is going to be taken away from them due to the Airport expansion. The plot is about the fight to keep the home.

Pretty funny, feel good movie.

Where can I find most of these at, since Blockbuster or other video stores don't carry them. Ken Park and Bully in particular.
