Wink R-Truth Heel Turn Memorial Thread

Noid brought up R-Truth and it just reminded me of the glory that was his heel turn. Still can't believe I went from "ugh, they gave him a title shot?" as a face before he lost it to "PUT THE FUCKING TITLE ON HIM NOW" as the most batshit insane entity in a while. But what put him over the edge at the start of the turn? Was it attacking John Morrison? Why no, it was "bumming a fag". Of course, the greatest heel OF ALL THE TIMES will smoke.

And of course, the greatest moment in WWE history.

R-Truth was truly great as a heel. Ron Killings, the performer, has always been a really solid talent, and he got to prove a lot of that value during his heel stint. It's a shame that the potential mid-card gold mine with John Morrison never worked out.

Now Truth suffers from the problem where he plays such a dependable happy-go-lucky face that the WWE doesn't seem moved enough to turn him heel again and give him a serious run. If he weren't so over as a comedy act, he might be kicking ass as a bad guy. Maybe merchandise sales and job security (as long as he doesn't get another wellness strike) more than make up for it, though.

I would still love to see the friendship between Kofi Kingston and R-Truth eventually dissolve into another heel run for Truth, although I feel that Kofi should win most of their matches. Man, a crazy R-Truth aligned with Zeb Colter and Jack Swagger would be pretty great.

His heel turn came out of nowhere, and was a shock because he almost immediately went after Cena and was introduced as a main event level threat. Each week he put on a killer show with his personality and charisma, especially the confederate soldier bit. I was in the same camp and was kind of sore that he was never given a rematch. Seems like since Punk started his moonshot push within a week after Truths PPV match against Cena that this small, great turn has been forgotten.

I was searching for more videos and I actually forgot about Awesome Truth, which was equally incredible where they were a legit threat to everyone.

Of course, then Truth smoked some pot and it was all over. Probably the only time I really cared for Miz too.

The Miz and R-Truth were also responsible for the whole "walkout" thing that went on, because people didn't feel Triple H was doing a good enough job protecting his talents from such random attacks.

2011 was a pretty crazy year for R-Truth, but was also a fucking golden year for WWE. When they edged him back into the face role after getting "bumped up" too much or whatever it was and him being crazy, he was HUGE over. His whole "Don't what me!", "WHAT", "Ok what me", "WHAT" thing was massive. But yeah, as others have said, his time has come and gone and he's now slipped back into the bland, midcard face that will probably not achieve much more now than maybe a couple of tag team titles.

That was probably his last chance really, guy is 41 although he hasn't aged much in the last 10 years, wouldn't mind seeing get a solid singles/tag push though, he's managed to stay pretty over.

R-Truth seemed to exude a lot more 'tude when he was "K Krush" in TNA... quite the bitchin' theme song, too! It ripped off the last third of the song "Jungle Boogie" where the beat is a menacing skat.

Just for the record he said "I WANT MY SONG BACK"

At the time he just had the truth will set you free then silence as theme music.

The man can really run with the ball if you give it to him Heelwise in early TNA he cut AMAZING heel promos intense, serious and got reaction.

If only the WWE would give him the chance again.

When you can get Austin at a loss for words you sir have done something right

Funny how, from all that, "Li'l Jimmy" went from meaning generic, kid Cenafan to becoming an actual imaginary little person... an invisible Hornswoggle, if you will.

I still wish they would have a match where a heel gets beat up in the ring by Little Jimmy. It would take a really solid performer to pull it off (Punk, DBD, and Ziggler strike me as the best choices currently), but yeah...

While it would be funny (and I admittedly would love to see it myself), it would also likely damage the career whoever attempted this. See: Chavito's losing streak vs Hornswoggle... only Horny is now imaginary. It would take a hell of a lot for somone to be taken seriously again afterwards.

It was a great heel run and really made R-Truth a bigger star. WWE should have put the belt on him or at less put the tag team titles on him with the Miz. Of course though he had to some a little Mary Jane and screwed his push.

I don't think Truth's heel run was ever going to get him the WWE Championship, but I do think an Awesome Truth Tag Team Title run would have been, well, awesome. I still think that they should have gone over Cena/Rock at Survivor Series with Rock turning on Cena to further WrestleMania tensions. I also don't think that Awesome Truth should have been broken up. Cena could have taken out Truth or they could have done something with him just being suspended for bad conduct.

But apparently Vince has always liked R-Truth as a face. You have to take what you read with a grain of salt, but Truth pretty much being a perpetual face when everyone knows what he is capable of does seem to support this.

I'm also hoping for Team Hell No vs. Rhodes Scholars vs. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth in a TLC Match at WrestleMania for the Tag Team Titles to be added. The New Age Outlaws putting over Rhodes & Sandow on RAW would be the first step to rebuilding them as heel threats, and their issues with Kingston & Truth could continue into the PPV. I'm sure Kofi could do something crazy in that match that gets people talking.

I liked his heel push, WWE managed to make me a fan of a guy I usually hated as a generic face (looking at you Kofi Kingston).

Sadly for R-Truth, there's now a lot more younger guys in the mid-card who will be getting those infrequent main event pushes.
