Batman: Arkham Origins

As the title suggests, the game takes place years before both of the previous Arkham titles when a young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time. On our full cover image below, fans will recognize the assassin Deathstroke, who appears for the very first time in a core Arkham game.
Heading up the vision for Arkham Origins is creative director Eric Holmes, known for being the lead designer of open world action hits The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype. A self-professed lover of comics, Holmes even wrote the miniseries Transformers: Megatron Origin for IDW.
Gamers won't have to wait long to experience Batman's lastest adventure. Batman: Arkham Origins releases October 25, 2013 on Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.



But that's not all. We also have a feature on the first handheld Arkham game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Releasing on 3DS and Vita the same day as the home console version, Blackgate is a completely separate experience that takes place after the events of Arkham Origins. Armature Studio is developing the 2.5-D Metroid-style exploration action game. Industry followers will recognize Armature Studio as the company founded by several of the leads from the Metroid Prime trilogy.

I'm not hopeful - change in devs, no involvement from Paul Dini on the story front - let's hope they're not changes for the worse.

Doesn't look like the Silver Age set title that was being talked about a while ago though, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you feel.

Storyline synopis seems to be this: "Eight of the best assassins in the world have come to Gotham City for one night, Christmas Eve of all nights, to kill the Bat."

Exactly. Why are people getting hype when the names that made the last games good aren't involved.

Stop it with falling for a brand it's the name's involved that's important. These guys have to earn your love. Consider this a new series and make them impress you.

Over what, exactly? Switching devs and brand spin-offs (often called 'whoring out' but I don't think that's bad by default) is usually when you should be critical until playthroughs are seen and demos are played.

Over that the new devs are quite aware of the legacy of the first 2 games and they realize they better not fuck up.

Again, I am optimistic for the game but will be waiting to see how this is when it actually comes out.

How'd that work out this gen overall?

I'd say for the HD whatever, this was a poor gen for gameplay. A lot of opportunities were missed or mishandled.

I'm more hopeful on certain aspects, but you gotta vet that shit.

Rocksteady hasn't disappointed you, but they're not doing this game. The title doesn't make the game.

Awesome news, but will be cautious about it after the developer change. Saying that, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was pretty great.

Pretty exciting, based on the story idea that seems cool and also pictures of two of my favorite villains.
