LC's Random Wrestling Moment of the Day: 6/24/04

Yeah, this is going to be my new thread if you will. I'm gonna to post a Wrestlng Moment from the Past and then do a little write up on it and you guys rely with whatever you want. I want to talk about some of the Great Moments of the Past. So, I'll bring you a different moment every day. I'm also doing my Top 100 Greatest Raw Moments, so look for that soon.

Paul Orndorff Turns on Hulk Hogan.
Year: 1986

This turn heard round the world all begin back in 1985. You see, Orndorff was a heel back around this time. He teamed with Piper at Wrestlemania 1 Hulk Hogan and Mr T. Hogan and Mr. T would wind up wining the contest and sometime after Piper blamed the loss at Wrestlemania on Orndorff on a segment of Piper's Pit. Orndorff would then get attacked by Piper and his main henchman, Cowboy Bob Orton. Soon after, Orndorff would help out Hulk Hogan and Mr. T fend off Piper and Orndorff. With Hogan being the top babyface in the WWF, this instantly made Orndorff one of the top babyfaces in the company.

As 1985 went on, Orndorff became a huge supporter of "Hulkamania." He would team with Hogan in tag matches against Piper and Orndorff. He, Junkyard Dog and Hogan would become the top babyfaces in the WWF. The first too were more of Hogan's lackeys though. (Brutus Beefcake would honor this coveted spot later on) Anyway, as 1986 rolled in, Hogan was attacked by King Kong Bundy on an episode of SNME with the help of Don Muraco. Hogan would go on to face Bundy at WM 2 and Orndorff, pissed at Muraco for assisting in the Hogan attack, would face Muraco at WM 2. They would wrestle in a non-finish match. The Orndorff-Muraco feud was suppossed to be big, but fans didn't really care and it was around this time that Orndorff began to get jelous of Hogan and Hulkamania.

ENTER MR. ADRIAN ADONIS. Yes, one of my favorite heels of all-time. Adrian Adonis had become the host of a his new segment called, "The Flower Shop." He did this when Piper left the WWF for a while and "Piper's Pit" was no more. This would later lead to a feud between the two. Anyway, Orndorff appeared on the "Flower Shop" and Adonis beraded him for standing in Hulk Hogan's shadow and not becoming his own man. Adonis claimed that Hogan didn't give a crap about him and that Hogan was holding him down unpurpose. Orndorff then tried to call Hogan, while on the "Flower Shop," but Hogan was busy and didn't want to take the call. Adonis again beraded Orndorff, making Orndorff feel like a loser because Hogan didn't want to talk to him.

Later on the next week, Hogan and Orndorff teamed against The Moondogs. Orndorff wrestlerd almost the entire match himself and Orndorff played up his jelousy of Hogan big time here. They won the match and Hogan had no idea how Orndorff was feeling. You know, in retrospect, this is pretty much the real Hulk Hogan we're getting here.

The plan would finally unfold the following week on an episode of Superstars of Wrestling in 1986. Hogan and Orndorff would team against the duo of John Studd and King Kong Buddy. They were managed by one of the greatest Hogan-Haters of all-time, Bobby Heenan. Orndorff started off the match doing a lot of show boating. Orndorff tries to slam Studd but it doesn't happen and he tage Hogan. Hogan comes in and slams Studd right away and the fans go insane. Hogan would fight for his life during the rest of the match as Orndorff walked around in the corner doing nothing to help Hogan. Then in a pivitol spot of the match, Hogan fell back and slammed his elbow into Orndorff's eye, which made Orndorff get off the ring apron and on to the arena floor. Orndorff began to mug the camera, pointing to his eye that he was hury. Shortly after, the heels began to triple team Hogan and the fans screamed for Orndorff to save him. Orndorff would come around and dashed into the ring to send the heels off. The fans popped for the Orndorff save, but they had no idea what was coming.

Orndorff began to pose a little and then he helped Hogan to his feet. Then in one quick motion it happened. Orndorff nails Hogan with a devestating closeline, which sent HOGAN flying back down to the mat. Then Orndorff went for his piledriver and nailed Hogan with it. The fans were pissed and Orndorff would then mock Hogan with Hogan's own signiture taunt. Orndorff was smiling at what he had just done. He had turned his back on his best friend. After the match, Orndorff, Adonis, Bundy, Studd, and Heenan would celebrate what Orndorff just did.

Orndorff would go on to feud with Hogan in HOT feud during the summer of 86. Sadly, Orndorff would suffer a bad nerve injury, which would damage his career. Orndorff would eventually move back down the card and soon after Hogan was placed in a blockbuster feud with the late Andre the Giant.

Thoughts: Today I would of rejoyced at the site of Orndorff hitting Hogan with that closeline, but back then, I was rather pissed off. But, it was a great turn and very well done. Stay tuned for another Random Wrestling Moment tommorrow. RKO and Out.

Can I take this moment to express how impressed I am that not once did Loose Cannon's lightening speed typing deviate from Orndorff to Orton.
Not Once!

Well done, big pat on the back to you.

Incidentally, great write-up!
Looking forward to the next one already, as long as it's not Brock v Holly.

LOL! I totally agree, though you could have thrown in some "Paul's" instead of typing "Orndorff" all the time.

Great job recapping the feud.

I loved Hogan-Orndorff, in fact I was a young lad when Hogan and Mr Wonderful came to Torotno for the Big Event, which I was in the crowd for. The atmosphere was amazing and I always thoguht Orndorff did as good of a job with Hogan as anyone else (except maybe Savage).

The other big thing that they did was the famous SNME Steel Cage match where they did the double finish (one ref said Paul escaped the cage first and won, the other said Hogan won). That was a memorable moment.

But yeah that feud was great and they made a TON of money doing house shows with that program. The only sad thing is that it never headlined a PPV, but back then there weren't too many PPVs, so thats not really a huge deal.

Wow, that had to be one of the first posts by LC that I've read that did not have Orton involved.

But good read nonetheless
