Think you are arguing a different point entirely, I meant it was baffling to think that Sheamus cashing in will work, or even have the pop of excitement after the way he has been booked. We have a midcarder as champion and no major stars.

It is baffling that the same old stuff keeps happening, yet different results are expected. Don't know how you can't see how illogical booking might be baffling, no matter how many times it is done.

I hope Sheamus' title reign doesn't last long. Worst gimmick ever and I can't bear another long winded face v authority storyline and neither do I want Reigns to win the Royal Rumble again.

I honestly thought Ambrose would have screwed him over.

Also is it just me or is Sheamus appearing scrawnier than before?

What a lame duck main event. Not only did they give Reigns the boring win everyone saw coming a mile away, they have him immediately drop it to an even less interesting and near zero credibility heel who hasn't done jack shit.

Maybe that's why they've done it? They were going to let his character build but given Rollins' untimely injury everything got rejigged? Sheamus may not be champion for long but it at least removes the briefcase from the equation now. Once he drops the belt he's out of the title picture again and imo quite possibly for the final time..........

It maybe sets the way for a Shield title match at WM 32 a triple threat etc?

Kill two birds with one stone? Reigns finally won the belt he was "supposed" to win in 2014, Sheamus cashes in, we can no reset the storyline. Reigns pummels Sheamus at TLC and walks into 2016 the WWE Champion awaiting the winner the RR possibly Brock Lesnar....possibly John Cena.....perhaps a Shield triple threat?

I reckon Cena v Reigns .

I see a win as a win. Roman Reigns won the RR and the WHC in the same year and may yet end 2015 as the champion. Can't complain.

I'd say at least with Sheamus he's already a multi-time champion, and was clearly set up to be the new Authority Boy. They've replaced Rollins with a guy who will fill the role in the same way, in a sense a step up since Sheamus does have that history. I don't know where they want to go from here but Sheamus is clearly going to serve as a placeholder between now and the beginning of the vaunted "Road To Wrestlemania." I see him losing to Reigns at some point as Reigns turns heel.

I guess the reason I don't find it baffling is that this is pretty much what I expected. This is what they tend to do in these situations; they move into a holding pattern until they can put themselves back towards where they wanted to be. I have a feeling that this would have happened even if Rollins had stayed healthy. Sheamus with the title isn't supposed to "work" in that he isn't supposed to go on and be a great champion. It's supposed to serve as a starting point to build something else. He's going to end this year and start next year the same way Kurt Angle rolled in late 00 early 01.

Not much to say about the show, I guess Sheamus is better than having Reigns as the Champion. Sheamus is going to draw heat so I guess that's a good thing. TLC main evented by Sheamus and Reigns should be boring.

The title match itself was good. Predictable yes, but good. I just hate it when MITB gets cashed in on a new champion. They could have at least done it tomorrow at the end of Raw. Overall it was a pretty standard/ kinda boring PPV. Best moment being the double chokeslam to Strowman or the Edge and Christian Promo with them imitating the Wyatts.

I mentioned Sting having a brief title run in another thread and there was agreement that a feud with Sheamus might work. Reigns and Lesnar would be far too physical but I think Sheamus could carry him assuming he comes back.

People might think I'm being far fetched but I do feel Sting has a place in the WWE title picture should he return for what will be his final 'final run'.

Until Reigns is firmly back in place expect the next 6 months to have many champions I.e. I see the belt changing hands a few more times.

I guess their going with super face Reigns as well. After not turning heel tonight I don't see him turning with Sheamus being champion. Really should build the Wyatt Family up and have Reigns win the title at TLC. Then have Wyatt booked strong until Seth comes back and have the Wyatt family beating down Reigns and Ambrose only to have Rollins return and reunite the Shield. After they defeat the Wyatt's have the Shield triple threat for the title.

I didn't want to see a Reigns opening Raw promo as champ. Sheamus cashing in saved me some misery. Honestly Sheamus is perfect for that role. He's been drawing heat with the "you look stupid" chants. Fans are going to hate on Sheamus and might even start to grow on Reigns. If they are looking to keep Reigns face this is probably the best way to go. I'd rather see heel Reigns before he has a serious title run but I'm afraid Vince is against that for some reason.

After some time to reflect:

I think they went with the worst of the three options, easily. The top option would have been Ambrose--because the crowd pretty universally loves him and his character, and when the WWE machine has been behind him even a little bit, he's been crazy over. (See his feud with Rollins in the summer).

As much as I'm not really into Roman Reigns' character and style, giving him the belt and even having him beat Sheamus to fend off a cash-in at least would have been a realistic effort to make someone the man. Once again, they had a chance to make someone a star--even if it's not someone a lot of people think should be--and they went with the same flip-flop booking that left them with a 16 man tournament including such singles luminaries as Kalisto and Stardust and Titus O'Neil.

I like a lot of Sheamus' work, but they definitely gave some dude who hasn't won a match in months and whose sole purpose on the show has been for the crowd to chant "you look stupid" the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

I agree, Reigns would have been perfect for the heel Authority guy but WWE doesn't see it I guess. The only good that can come out of Reigns and Ambrose staying face is a Shield reunion when Rollins returns.

I don't think it's one or the other. Really it could be anything just to break the formula... which was why the Shield was so successful in the first place... they were so different to what anyone had seen in the past decade.
