Summerslam 04 Buyrate
according to wwe.com the Summerslam buy appears to be around the 375,000 mark and actually a little lower than that.
So after the 3 PPVs in 6 weeks concept seemed to be a success it now looks like people may have been burned out going into Summerslam. Either that or they just didn't care about the card. It shoudl be noted, these numbers usually go up a little after more reports come in, but still, even as an initial estimate thats on the very low end for "major" PPVs. Help me drain the IWC swamp! |

Wow. Though it wasn't great, the Summerslam card seemed far better than some of the other events that preceeded it. I really disagree with them adding 2 extra ppvs a year, but I guess I'm not really one to complain since I haven't bought a ppv since WMXX.

Good, serves them right for over saturating the fans with a crap load of wrestling. I've said it before that this is way too much and they need to cut it. And Summerslam is a big one, so they should get a scare out of this. I mean, the WWE has no time to book storylines anymore when PPV's are like 3 weeks away from one another. You can't do that. I mean Unforgiven is like 2 weeks right? Haven't they learned the phrase "less is more" by now?

Yeah I was always more concerned about this next block of 4 PPVs (Unfrogiven, No Mercy, Taboo Tuesday and SurvSer). Reason being this is generally a down time for the company, both in terms of ratings (with football and the Networks going back to 1st run shows) and buyrates, SurvSer is traditionally the lowest draw of the big 4. But now with 4 PPVs in a little over 2 months they might do a lot worse than normal.
Whats even worse is that I dont see a laundry list of matches that are coming up that will get people buzzing. I mean Orton-HHH has no special feel to me right now, and if HHH gets the title back, does that mean we're in for HHH-Benoit part 45? Well see, it wasn't a horrible number by any means, but I'm sure they would have felt a lot safer if SS had cracked the 400-425,000 mark for the initial number. Oh well. |

On BTR this week they were complaning about this too. They were also saying how house shows have generated less money then last year so far and this year. But the thing is, this year has had more house shows then last year so far and they're still generating less. They really need to start backing off a little. I mean business is down and they are giving us more and more and more wrestling. Doesn't sound smart to me.

So Unforgiven is shaping up to look like:
HHH vs Orton Benoit vs Batista Jericho vs Edge for the 6435432423th time in the last few weeks Rhyno/Tajiri vs La Res HBK's return (vs Kane maybe?) I'm not sure what else they've got planned, maybe Eugene vs Flair? Anyway it doesn't look too promising from where I'm sitting. On the Smackdown side of things it looks like we're going to see another Taker vs JBL match at the next ppv, and possibly another Guerrero vs Angle encounter. In other words it will be SummerSlam all over again as far as SD is concerned. It didn't sell good the first time, but if we show it to them again 4 weeks later they'll like it more ![]() I'm not sure where they're going with the whole interactive ppv thing for Taboo Tuesday, but I can't imagine it will do very well either. I'm hoping they will opt out of a Raw brand title match at Survivor Series. Last year the WWE Title wasn't defended because Lesnar was in a 5 man tag, and I think that would be a very good idea for the Raw brand this year (though it's not bloody likely). If they're really going to try to stretch Orton/HHH to WM then they really don't need to give it to us so many times before then, once is too many but whatever. Nobody wants to see another HHH/Benoit feud, so all I can think of is to put the belt on hold and make us not care about it for a while. That sounds like a stupid thing to say, and it's a stupid idea, but they've forced me to not care about the title anymore. They may as well just not focus on it for a while now. Anyway, maybe we can all just look forward to Royal Rumble. Everybody likes the RR lol. |

However, I think a good reason why the buys were down, was because Most Of Florida, and the Southeast was without Power when Summerslam came on....which was my reason for not ordering it
