Re: Roman/Brock:

I get people’s complaints. They all sound perfectly valid. For me, this is why it worked:

In the context of this whole Brock/Roman story: From the amazing shit-kicking at 2015 to the awkward as shit anticlimax in 2018 — there’s been this feeling of “they want to get it right.” The craziest thing about this was them showing up, having the match feel epic and having the crowd exactly where they are supposed to be (for a change).

If you think about it, this is an amazing example of crowd manipulation.

Brock and Roman are both excellent. Can they do more? Sure. But I do feel this was the sort of match they should have the context of who they are and where they are right now. It’s not an easy spot to be in, headlining these two epic shows.

Had they gone out and grabbed a headlock — look, I get why some people might have loved it. And I also get how a 40 minutes perfect building match could feel like the ultimate capstone of their rivalry. But I feel like this bam, pow, get it done style fits this match, this show, this moment, who these guys are.

I wouldn’t do another one. I don’t know if Brock’s next big, big match should feel like this. I agree with changing it up. If Brock and Roman ever wrestle again? That’s the time and a place for a new story to grow out of it. Roman will be cocky and take his time. Brock should work up to his stuff. But for WrestleMania 38 — these two titans just going in there with a singular goal, each at the top of their game — I’m totally okay with this.

The Vince Stunner stuff is something that you’d think could completely ruin a moment, but somehow Austin’s reaction made it AMAZING. It seems to have brought so many people joy. It was weirdly humanizing.

I found myself overanalyzing the segment for a bit. I told myself it would have been better had Austin come out and beat up Vince and McAfee won, because McAfee was just so good and Vince doesn’t ever need to win at WrestleMania. But you’re building to that Vince Stunner spot. Just accept that and move forward.

Bobby Lashley and Omos is something that really had me worried. Very impressed that they went out there and did what they did. Especially considering Lashley was just hurt. I’d be very interested in a documentary or a book or something into how this guy mentally operates, because it’s like a switch went off and he went from being this dude that sort of felt like a Brock Lesnar facsimile to being a veteran who feels like a dude you can trust to get passable shit out of Omos at WrestleMania. AJ Styles and Finn Balor struggled with that shit.
