Best Tag Team Tournament: Round 1, Group A
Time to get into the Main Tournament Get HYPED!
the matches are as follows: Group A: Good Brothers vs Powers of Pain Road Warriors vs New Age Outlaws Dream Team vs Crusher & Bruiser Minnesota Wrecking Crew vs Fantastics Destruction Crew vs The Stud Stable Fabulous Ones vs New Day Rock n Roll Express vs American Wolves Strike Force vs the Bar I will once again discuss the tie breaker, as it's the easiest I can come up with. I do vote in this, but in the event of a tie, the team I vote for loses. I think many of these will be pretty easy to figure out. But, have fun anyway. ![]() ![]() = ![]() "KARA-TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" Surprisingly tricky. It can be hard to compare teams through eras.

0 memories of Powers of Pain, so easily giving them the nod over the Good Brothers.
Road Warriors take it over New Age Outlaws for me.... I loved New Age Outlaws, was a "big deal" to my kid brain seeing them actually get together, form, and develop their personas....... but Road Warriors/Legion of Doom were just ultra cool with their facepaint, shoulder pads, and entrance theme (WWF). Dream Team vs Crusher and Bruiser no idea about these teams at all.... Giving the next match to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew because I actually saw a handful of their matches (and enjoyed them). No idea about Destruction Crew/Stud Stable.... New Day wins the next one... don't really know Fabulous Ones, but New Day one of the best of all time Rock n' Roll Express gets the nod over American Wolves.... if for nothing but longevity's sake... Strike Force vs The Bar is tough..... The Bar was great, but at a time when wrestling was rrrrreally struggling, and made it really hard to not get tired/bored of The Bar.... but I'm gonna give it to The Bar. |

The Bar is a perfect example of wrestling mattering in context. Two guys that have been (slightly) being big deals on their own and actually getting a reputable push. Didn’t they win something like 4 Tag Titles? They should probably be considered among the “best of their era.” But it just doesn’t matter. The New Day, The Usos and RKBro are kind of changing that now, but it’s really hard to rank The Bar fairly. Emotion is a fair part of the lasting impression people make — and WWE have been devoid of that for a pretty long time.

The Dream Team were a great team. I'm glad we've got to see a couple of their matches on the Watchalong. So many teams from that era don't get talked about
Destruction Crew were also fantastic. They should have went to WCW instead of the WWF where they became the Beverly Brothers. |

Yeah they were brought in because jobbers were refusing to work with the Steiners and Bloom/Enos could safely take all their moves.

As great as the Barbarian was, the Warlord was dead weight. I graded the Good Brothers on a curve because they were decent in Japan.
Prime Road Warriors was the tits. NAO, while good, just drew the short straw. Da Crusher and Da Bruiser were legends in AWA. Nothing against the Dream Team, but Dick the Bruiser was also royalty in Indianapolis. Fantastics are a great team, they were really good in Smokey Mountain. And were basically the third best "Blow Job" team in Memphis history, behind he Rock n Rolls and the Fabulous Ones. But, it's Ole and Gene. Sorry, guys. Destruction Crew, like mentioned, had a decent run as the Beverly Brothers and a forgettable one as Minnesota Wrecking Crew 2. They were one of the last great teams for the AWA. The Stud Stable was a great team in the Southern Territories. Jimmy Golden had one of the best Dropkicks in wrestling. Rob Fuller, while not as good as his brother, was pretty damned good himself. They actually had a stint in WCW, Golden as Bunkhouse Buck, and Fuller as Col. Rob Parker. Fabs vs the New Day was hard for me. One one hand, the Fabulous Ones are legends in Memphis. Pretty sure 35% of the locals in Memphis to this day have some DNA from Stan Keirn or Stan Lane. New Day has the slight advantage, with both Recency Bias as well as being big deals culturally. Without hyperbole, Big E is the closest thing our generation has to prime JYD. As such, Had to go with the New Day. I am not as familiar with the Wolves, I understand they are a damned good team. The problem is, they aren't the Rock n Roll Express, a team that are legends and, in their heyday, were the biggest thing culturally. Literally there were two pictures on the walls of most folks in the Southeast: One of Jesus, one of the Rock N Roll Express. Strike Force and the Bar is a tough one, as well. On one hand, probably the second best of all of Claudio's tag teams, behind the Kings of Wrestling (personal opinion). Claudio is such a versatile athlete, he can be the heavy with a smaller partner, or he can be the more agile guy with a larger partner, like he is with Sheamus. I joked that the Bar vs Shane and Miz was his best work, because Sheamus was hurt, so Cesaro had to carry 3 guys to a watchable match. On the other hand, Strike Force was one of the best babyface teams in WWF history. Born from Tom Zenk being a shit for brains, Tito worked well with Martel. Martel is just so good at everything at this point, one of the more underrated talents of the '80s, even as a former AWA Champion. And they smashed the Garrea team, so I went with Strike Force. Maybe to the benefit of the Bar. |

Favorite Warlord moment: He has Bret in a bear hug. Bret, in desperation, polishes the top of his head like an apple, and bites him. It wasn't just the biting, it was that he rubbed his head first.

Hey Gertner I wish me and you were a tag team buddy.
I’d take all the bumps but still not take many because I’m your Spivey. We would be called the Tim Towers and we’d come out in big Tim Hortons Icecap cups as costumes. |

The Bar never felt like more than the sum of its parts. And Sheamus has been given almost every accolade in the business. I think Del Rio might be the only guy that has gotten anywhere near as much and not been anywhere near as over as they should be.

Sheamus has won 4 World Titles, a Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, King of the Ring, 3-time US Champion, 5-time Tag Team Champion and has been in a fucking Ninja Turtles movie and still feels expendable.
He doesn’t suck or anything. There’s nothing he can’t do quite well, for that matter. It just never makes you care. I guess it’s a charisma issue. |

I’m now actually a tiny little bit nostalgic for The Bar though, lol. It’d be interesting to see them pair up with RKBro, Alpha Academy and the Street Profits.

Dream Team are probably the most underrated WWF team of the 80s.

We voted Powers of Pain because they look like savages. Sure their matches weren't any good, but the walk to the ring, the stare down, the test of strength... the fear in the opponents eyes. Pretty much that's it, but 80's wrestling didn't ask for to much did it?

I voted Powers of Pain because they were a good team for an era where methodical booking could easily cover up being sub-par in the ring.
I also voted against The Bar because they existed in an era where meaningless, scatterbrained booking could not properly showcase two guys who are great in the ring. I’m sorry but there’s only so much I’m willing to squint to ignore the outside forces and judge two teams from different eras on a level playing field. |

I forgot to put a time limit. However, I'm gonna call the winners now:
Powers of Pain Road Warriors Dream Team Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Ole and Gene) Stud Stable New Day Rock N Roll Express The Bar They will move on to Round 2. I will have the second group up in a moment. |
