claire obscure
Whos playing it and whos got thoughts onnett... Took me a while to warm up to the dark souls elements of the battles that everyone was gushing over. Im a turn based purist which is why it took me a while to warm up... but getting the patterns in the boss fights is kinda good
Feels like the ppl who made this are just ppl who grew up playing the same games I did... very obvious Persona/FF10 influence... keep thinking "this is the game final fantasy 13 should have been" Its loaded with optional stuff... main quest got kinda easy but finding the random stuff on the world map that they dont tell you about (which ive been waiting since like, final fantasy 9 for a game to harken back to) is full of crazy difficult enemies Dont love all the menu navigation with pictos and lumina... messes with the pacing having to do all that Very cool and small cast of characters... big fan of "Maelle"... crazy ass story that starts very "in media res" and doesnt reveal hardly any thing till way later. French ah hell... but they lean into it which is funny with the mime costumes and bagguetes and stuff. The music is tight... we love a leitmotif So ya whos playing claire obscure expedition 33... |

I beat it literally last night.
Easily my game of the year so far. Characters, voice acting, story, art style, setting, gameplay, power progression, world exploration its all top tier. And genuinely funny, tragic and heart warming all in its own time. It may be a masterpiece and it goes to show you how much talent is being wasted at Ubisoft |

Posted about this on the other forums when it launched and this site was down for quite a while.
This is an easy GOTY. Everything Destor said hits the nail right on the head. If it doesn't win an award for at least the music, something is very, VERY wrong. The first game in a long time to make me genuinely react with strong emotions of all varieties. Love the battle system. Reminds me a bit of Mario RPG and Legend of Dragoon mashed a bit. |

I never played Lost Odyssey, so I cannot attest to it. I may need to look into it tho.

at "Simon" atm... could take the time to set up the party so theyre optimized for him and then learn the patterns... mad hard fight
Should prolly just finish the game bc because the optional bosses are way harder than the storyline ones |

If youre even partially able to take on simon you should go and roll the credits. Youll probably already trivialize the last fight as is but Simon is THE super boss

Defeated his first form and then when he came back and started doing everything 2x I thought it was a joke. I thought it was one of those fights you're designed to lose

I grinded out level 99 in a couple hours at the dark shores (the place with the hand enemies). Between that, all the lumina points I had and my broken af party with Maelle, Lune, and Verso...well, Simon didn't stand a chance. Had a much harder time with Painted Love before I got too skronk.
Anyways, easy GOTY for me. Comparisons to Lost Odyssey are spot on. Both are in my top 5. Clair is prob my number 2 game now with only Chrono Trigger ahead of it. |

There are two endings. The save after the one big fight allows you to go right back and do the other ending if you wish..... or you can go to any save point and start a NG+
though it sounds like you did most or all of the "after campaign" stuff before you finished Act III, so there's probably nothing left. |

Finally getting settled in the new house. IDK if this game has Dolby Atmos enabled, but I'm stoked to do a NG+ with a complete Atmos sound setup and new OLED tv.
God this game is so great. |

Indy gaming is really on the rise. CO:E33 Hot on the heels of BG3 plus games like Sea of Stars and the thriving retro inspired indy scene...AAA really isnt keeping up.
And it makes sense that it would struggle. There's too much risk with AAA. A single game failing could put a thousand people out of work. That is going to create an industry that must be risk adverse out of necessity. What would be ideal is a return to more double a type titles. Lower budgets with lower risks. Squares team Asano had adopted this strategy and they were able to use their profits to help fund their bugger projects but after their AAA games lost too much money (Avengers/Babylons Fall/Forsaken and even games like FF7R2 underperforming) theyre choosing to bizarrely back off their midtier titles that were turning profit in pursuit of the white whale of success. The industry is in a bad place but i hope games like this show a path to success to the major studios that allows creativity and ideas to be what gets green lit over safety. |

Yep. Enshittification began once high-dollar execs saw the dollar signs on the industry. Smart money says a lot of them aren't privy to the shitty era of the mid-80s before the rise of the NES.
"Fiscal reports" fuck things over so much anymore. Also shuts down a ton more of the creative sides of things. This game has easily become my #2 overall, only behind Chrono Trigger. For me, and maybe it's just a "product of its time", that game is and always will be the best. That said, I'd be down for a modern "reimagining" of it too. The mobile version is pretty damn good, giving the full FMV sequences during the game, which the SNES version lacked, and the PSX version stuttered badly with. |

After FF7R I'll never ask for a reimagining again. I'll just play mediocre ports.

Fair. Perhaps reimagining isn't the correct label. Keep everything the same, just update it with modern tech. It'd be very pretty

I'd say simon is effectively impossible without doing one of those game breaking builds that I'm not arsed to do. It takes me 5-10 minutes to get through his first form, and I need to learn his light speed combos in his second form, and of course they take me out in one hit, so I only get one chance to practice them, and of course he's got like 5 combos. So then I have to reload and beat the first form again just for the chance of getting to practice one of his combos one time every fifteen minutes. It's just stupid. You get taken out before you realize what's happened and then it's much too long before you get back into that battle and I've lost the pattern from my working memory. I wouldn't mind the difficulty as much if I could actually practice for it, and I want an actual challenge so I'm not gonna just build a game breaking build that exploits shields or rush or w/e so I can one shot him. Dumb
Never wanted that sh*t in the first place... |

The only thing that needs to be done in a new version of Chrono Trigger is to redo the exact game using the HD-2D octopath style. That's it.

I'm hesitant to encourage any remake but if anything needs one its FF8. That thing was weird as hell and kinda broken. Do that in a new style, that would be cool. Persona 3 was the other one and they did it perfectly exactly how I wanted them to. Remake flawed games to improve them not perfect games to ruin them
They literally cant leave well enough alone because theres too much at stake for big companies like destro was saying earlier. Look at Secret of Mana. In the remake they kept the janky combat and AI and people complained. The remasters expose the flaws of the original games which we overlook now as charming or limitations of the time or w/e, but now it makes people angry. And if they change them, they're doing too much, not faithful to the original, etc. No remakes Last edited by OssMan; Yesterday at 12:11 PM. |

I think DQ3 was a good blueprint on how id like them to handle remakes. And its just like Seph said. Out it in hd 2d and fuck off. Similarly i have FF Tactics remake preordered and i couldnt be any more hyped for it
