The Dudley Boyz...is the cow dry?
It seems like the Dudleys have been on top of the tag team scene forever now. And I truely believe this in one instance that WWE didn't screw up, and milked them for all they are worth. But now, is there any point to keeping them together or around for that matter. There gimmick is stale a hell. They are no longer from Dudleyville but instead New York City (gay). They have been face, they have been heel, and they have fought everyone and their mother (well if Buff Bagwell and Judy were still around they would have).
But can the Dudleys be saved from boring repative matches (besides letting them have flaming table matches)? Can the have a gimmick overhaul? Or should they just be let go for a while? Discuss. |

They haven't put anyone through a table in so long.
LIGHTBULB! E & C reunite in the near future. Dudleyz confront them at SS, just a backstage skit. Tension builds until the Royal Rumble. Dudleyz 3-D Spike (they will eventually), setting up a Dudley Boyz vs. E & C Wrestlemania match. |

They used to put women through tables for one point. D-von was a reverend for a while, but Bubba Ray stayed face and didn't really change. They should definitely have a whole new kind of gimmick (something along the lines of Right To Censor in terms of how radical). The markish side of my wants them to stay the same though, because its The Dudleys, they've been around for so long and some things just shouldn't change. Give them a new type of gimmick though, maybe something like where they punk you out after every single match by kicking you in the balls or something

If there were a whole bunch of teams competing for the tag titles, i wouldn't mind watching them as much, because they always add a certain element to huge matches.

I liked what they were doing on Smackdown awhile ago with the Dudlyz and Paul Heyman. With Paul motivating them to "make an impact". That could have lead to some interesting stuff where the Dudlyz just wreak havoc on everybody.
But now they've screwed that whole thing up. Paul Heyman is off with Heidenreich and unexplainedly ha forgotten about the Dudlyz. Even more ridiculous is this whole Spike Dudley being "The Boss" thing. Frankly it pisses me off. After seeing the Dudleyz trying to "make an impact" with the guidance of Paul Heyman I know get to see them being punked out and commanded around by skinny little Spike. I just can't grasp why the hell they would allow themselves to be treated that way. |

They've been stale for quite sometime now. But they're one of the few actual tagteams so they should be kept together. Not sure what kind of gimmick change they could go through though.
As singles, they sucked. |

The Dudleys have proven that people can get too dependant on each other when it comes to tag teams. To be honest, when they split the roster, I would have had Bubba Ray Dudley remain on SmackDown! and play the "reverend" role. D-Von has the natural ability and mic skills to make the gimmick work, but I think Bubba would have had the heat to make the gimmick work. I can just see Bubba Ray checking out Stacy Keibler while he's saying a prayer before their match. I can see Bubba Ray hiding behind Deacon Batista when a face goes on a rampage. I can see Bubba Ray making a collection fund, then a "hidden" camera see Bubba Ray buy pornographic magazines, condoms and maybe hire a prostitute or two. D-Von could have gone to RAW and made a new tag team with Spike Dudley, or play the tough guy like Bubba was. I don't know why, but seeing Bubba Ray punk out Triple H didn't interest me as much as D-Von punking out Triple H. A feud between the two would have been interesting.
Anyway, what to do with The Dudleys. Why not have them run out and destroy Heidenreich? I know I'm a guy that usually gives guys a chance, and really gets behind a guy when he has an oppourtunity, but I think the plug should be pulled on this Heidenreich character before it digs too deep into SmackDown!'s base. I think Heidenreich would make a far better supervillain to The Hurricane on RAW, or as a sympathetic babyface on SmackDown!. Maybe he could start a tag team with Hardcore Holly now that Billy Gunn is in rehab (I hope he comes back soon)? A Heidenreich & Hardcore Holly vs. The Dudleys in a table match would be mildly entertaining, plus we could see The Dudleys bring out their psychotic personas, and maybe have a flaming table in there or two. I don't think The Dudleys have run dry, I think it is pushing them as the tough tag team that has run out, simply because there is hardly anyone to be tougher than. If there were eight tag teams on SmackDown!, then The Dudleys would have that heat, but since there aren't, I wouldn't mind seeing The Dudleys cut a promo about how the tag team division isn't worth it. Then Theodore R. Long can agree with them, and announce a tag team tournament or something. |
