Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy (Ladder Match) - If Hardy Had Won
Suppose Jeff Hardy had won that ladder match (posted in the wrestling videos thread, for scientific purposes).
I, personally, found this match to be extremely entertaining. These two wrestlers fit like the pants of a man with 5 penises... like a glove. Undertaker, given a guy with Hardys size and agility, can literally do anything with him. Hardy, giving up so much size, will automatically be the face due to the nature of humans to go for the underdog. So far they've followed the natural order of things. David and Goliath style. At this point, both men were Uber-Over. The crowd seemed to be constantly into it. Jeff and Taker threw a good, solid, almost 20 min match, and to me, it never felt like it was too long. Almost too short. For my money, old school style feuds with some new age moves thrown in are the absolute best matches you can ask for. *HOLY SHIT! TAKER BUMPED A HURRICANRANA!!* *TWICE IN ONE MATCH THE LAST RIDE WAS REVERSED!!!!* I felt that here was genuine emotion in this match, coming from the crowd. And the only way the finish could have been better, was for the Taker to follow the chokeslam down. And the little quasi-promo afterward? What a damn good way to end it. Thank you Taker, you just put Hardy over. Now lets watch his contract expire so he can go to TNA. Overall, I give this match a 9. Its better than 95% of the matches you'll see on Raw or Smackdown these days. Its a shame that I was overseas and not able to get any wrasslin' programs. What do you guys (or girls) think? |

Yea, totally agree. Not a fan of eathier wrestlers, but I loved that match. It was one of those matches where I actually cared about someone winning as I was really pulling for Jeff. I wanted him to take the Title that night and I think the crowd really wanted that too. Like you said, great emotion and psychology were involved in the match.

I love the end of it, when Hardy wants more and Taker raises his hand Taker-style. WWE dropped this like a Seahawks's receiver.

Even if Hardy was not booked to win, I was hoping Jeff would just grab the belt anyways. I mean, that would create a stir in the wrestling world if Jeff Hardy just grabbed the WWE Undisputed Championship when he was not supposed to win. He left the company a few months later anyways so it could have been huge. I think it would have created another 'Montreal screwjob incident'.

This was definitely a great match. Even JR had some good calls during that match. I specifically remember the "climb your ass off kid!!!!" But WWE did drop the ball on Jeff with that one there. That seemed to happen alot in 2002.

I don't mean to spoil the mood, but I don't think Hardy winning the match would have been a good decision.
Hardy was released because of his natural attitude. I doubt winning the Undisputed Championship would have changed that, in fact it probably would have made him more of a sloth when it comes to showing up for shows. I think the match served its purpose in getting over Hardy, and having Taker make an out of character title defense. Hardy vs. Taker wouldn't have been nearly as good if we couldn't smell the Jeff title win, and a Ladder Match let us do that. |

As much as I am a Jeff Hardy fan....what a coup it would've been if he had won the Strap from 'Taker. Imangine how over he would've been with the fans. Unfortuenetly...he was burned out at the time. Not only from the travel fatigue but also from the drugs. Poor kid gave it his all and was just shy of winning it all.
Now....imagine if he was at full strength and at full intensity. Man what a champ he would've made. |

Ive always had respect for Hardy's willingness to bust up his body for the sake of a match, but to see him with the WWE Championship would have rubbed me the wrong way. I just dont think he was ever the right guy to hold the big title.
At the same time, he was over for a time, and I'm objective enough to say even though I dont like a guy, that doesn't mean they couldn't work as a top draw if they were pushed right. The match with Taker was great and the fact that Hardy lost made it even better. We got to see Hardy go toe to toe with Taker, and in theory they should have built up Hardy to eventually win the title. That chase story could have been very intriuging. Ultimately like many other times in recent history they dropped the ball, but for that one night, it was a great piece of business. |

The more I think of that match, the more I remember Jeff being the Jeff that was over, the Jeff that had some heart in the business. But I see WWE's standpoint seing as how that probably was the last test for Jeff.

![]() He technically wouldn't be a Cruiserweight, US, WWE Tag Team or World Heavyweight Champion, but he would have been a champion of every style of division (save Women's). |
