He's not the best player anymore, but he is still the face of the Twins. His play in center is second to none. Andrew Jones can go in, but Torii can rob the home run like nobodies business. Robbing a home run is better then hitting one.
He also performs in big games. He was awesome when he had national exposure in the playoffs last season, hitting and defensively. In the 2002 All-Star Game he goes in and robs none other then Barry Bonds of a home run. You can't put on a better show then that. Even the other night, I cheered loud for his three run jack on Sunday Night Baseball. Most of all though, he is a personality. If there was one Twin that I would want to meet, it would be Torii, and apparently thats what Make-A-Wish has found aswell. Santana is amazing, but Torii has the personality. There is no ego under Torii's hat, just a nice classy guy. He is the kind of guy that I would want my daughter to marry. In interviews, he is always fun loving and happy, not too serious, not stupid, he's Torii damnit. The rest of the world can't hold grudges, because you don't see the everyday average hitting Torii that Twins fans do. You just see the clips of him going yard and making web gems on Sports Center. Then you see clips of him being the man in interviews. You have limited exposure and it's all good. That is why Torii Hunter should be your favorite player. Dont Mess With Kids |

Too bad baseball is incomparable to just about every contact sport.

He was interviewed by one of the FSN Detroit announcers yesterday before their traves-- game against the Tigers, and he seemed to be having a blast. Plus, he said some nice things about Detroit, which is cool.
I've always admired him as a player, and he just came across as a really fun guy in the interview, so he moved up a couple of notches on my favorite player list. Anybody who can be that good and keep a level head = okay in my book. |

When he robbed Bonds in the All-Star game he moved right up real high on my list. I'd say Radke is my favorite Twin though, then Hunter.

Just before somebody tries to be a dick, obviously I made this thread mainly as a joke type thread, but the stuff I posted is for the most part true, just slightly exagerated for my own purposes.

Vernon won it for center field, so unless they don't care about outfield position Hunter didn't win.

No usually at least two center fielders win it, since they are generally the top outfielders. Except Ichiro has won it in the past too.
No doubt Vernon is in the same ballpark as Torii as a cool yet unknown center fielder, but I think most people would say Torii is the top defensive center fielder. |
