UFC star Lee Murray stabbed

From Dave Meltzer:

Lee Murray, a well known UFC fighter from England, is battling for his life today after being stabbed after a party.

Murray was one of three men stabbed and seriously injured in the bloody brawl. Murray was stabbed in the ribs, heart and lung. One of the wounds created a hole in his heart.

"I'm devastated," said promoter Andy Geer to the London Evening Standard. "Lee's in a very bad way. He just went to party with friends and this results. He's got a colourful history but since he's been contracted to Cage Rage, he's been well behaved."

The fight broke out last night at 3:15 a.m. after a celebrity filled party for page 3 model Lauren Pope's 21st birthday at the Funky Buddha club.

Footage shot shows three men were outside the club in the street seemingly waiting. When they saw Murray leave the party, they jumped on him. About 12 men ended up in a fight. One man was thrown into barriers and a parked Land Rover, and collapsed from injuries and loss of blood. It's not known if he'll pull through.

Pope said, "I couldn't believe it. We'd been having a great night celebrating my birthday. Then some guys started a fight outside afterwards...there was some rough fighting."

Murray in in St. Mary's Hospital in West London.

Murray made a name for himself in UFC but due to his own legal issues, was unable to return to the United States and thus was no longer being used. Ironically, although a talented fighter inside the ring, combining kickboxing skill with submissions, he gained his most fame when he knocked out Tito Ortiz in a parking lot brawl after a UFC show in London a few years ago.

Murray and Ortiz did some interviews on UFC shows to build up what would have been a big grudge match, but UFC never booked it because they had slotted Murray as a championship contender at 185 pounds, and thus didn't want him to gain weight to fight Ortiz.
