Wrestling's Greatest Feuds: Vol 1

Welcome to my newest series of columns here on TPWW.net, Wrestling's Greatest Feuds In this series, we look back at some of the most compelling feuds and rivalries that have graced the sport. From lower card feuds to the tag feuds to the money making main event rivalries, we've seen many epic battles along the way. Let's start off the series with one of my favorite feuds of the early 90's:

The Ultimate Warrior vs Macho King Randy Savage

The Macho King eyes Gold

It was on an episode of The Main Event in late 1990 where this feud would first begin. What started as a battle between the two superstars would end in a war almost 5 months later. WWF Champion, The Ultimate Warrior, took on Ted Dibiase for the WWF Title. As the Warrior seemed to have the match won, Dibiase's right hand man, Virgil, jumped in and attacked the Warrior. The ref quickly called for the bell. Warrior would mount a comeback and set Virgil up for a gorilla press slam. It was at the moment that Randy Savage would come racing down the isle and attack The Warrior with his septar. Savage would climb the top rope and drive the septar into the Warrior's head before retreating. The damage had been done and the stage was set.

Warrior denies Savage an opportunity

The Macho King wanted one thing from the Warrior and that was his Championship Belt. Macho King had requested a Title Shot from the Ultimate Warrior numerous times throughout the next few weeks and the fighting champion wouldn't answer his request. Savage was destined to win the gold from this god among champions. At Royal Rumble 1991, Savage sent out the official slut of the Macho Kingdom, Queen Sherri. During an interview with the Ultimate Warrior, Queen Sherri asked politely that the Warrior give a shot at the Title to Savage if he were to retain that night against Sgt. Slaughter. The Champion would not budge.

Sherri then began to do what any manager would do in the early 90's; she seduced the Warrior. The scene quickly turned to something right out of a late night Skinemax classic. As parents and their children gleefully looked on, Sherri began to remove Warrior's jacket and give him a little bit of a rub down. The Warrior, always the odd ball, seemed like he had no clue as to what the fuck was going on. Sherri pleaded and begged with the Warrior to give Macho King a shot at the Title as she continued to give him a body massage. And yes readers, this actually happened. Sherri then got down on her knees as the crowd waited for Warrior to finally give in. But instead of falling for one of Sherri's tricks, The Ultimate Einstein quickly pulled Sherri to her feet, started shaking and let out an enormous NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Maybe this was just the roids talking, but The Warrior had once again proved why he was a great champion.

The Ultimate Loser

Later that night, The Warrior took on the Iraqi sympathizer, Sgt. Slaughter, for the WWF Title. During the match, Queen Sherri would make an uninvited appearance and distract the Warrior. Having only a couple of brain cells left in him at this time of the night, the Warrior would run off and chase Sherri to the back as she fled. Waiting there for him in just about the darkest area you could imagine was the Macho King. I mean seriously, he was in the mother of all hiding spots. As the Warrior was running a million miles a minute to the back, Savage quickly jumped out with a 9 foot production light in his hand (LOL I know) and closelines the Warrior with it. Warrior sunk like the Titanic. Savage attacked Warrior some more and quickly fled to the back.

Our hero, Warrior, would recover from this attack and head back to the ring to try and finish his match. The almighty Warrior would surprisingly start a comeback against Slaughter. But once again, Savage came running down to the ring. This time he had his septar with him and once again Savage would go into hiding. Sly Savage would hide just below the top of the ring. As Slaughter gave a knee to the Warrior from behind, Warrior fell right into the ropes. With the ref distracted and the Warrior's face facing Savage, Savage took his septar and just about knocked the last of Warrior's brain cells right out of him. The dam weapon broke in half for god sakes. Slaughter would drop the worst looking elbow drop of all-time and defeat the Champion.

The Final Battle

The stage was finally set for the face off between the Ultimate Warrior and The Macho King. It was to be held at Wrestlemania 7. And this wasn't just going to be no ordinary match. This was a Retirement Match. The match was one of the best matches Warrior ever had. Savage knew how to work Warrior and pulled off the match of the night. The two battled back and forth until Savage gained the upperhand and hit his almighty elbow drop. But he didn't stop there as he would continue to frop more elbows. Savage went for the cover, BUT WARRIOR KICKED OUT. OMG!!!!!

Warrior then would hit his finishing move on Savage, but Savage would also kick out. By now the fans were on their feet cause this was awesome. Warrior got up and seemed like he had suddenly lost it when he began talking to his hands. That was probably the horse tranquilizer kicking in, but none the less, Warrior wasn't all there. He looked up to the heavens and wondered why the fuck Savage hadn't jobbed by now. He was sure that was supposed to end it. The gods must have told him to hit his finisher one more time because he did just that and won the match. Warrior was victorious and Savage was gone.

After the match, Queen Sherri got mad and attacked Savage; Miss Elizabeth came out of the crowd, attacked Sherri, we marked the f'k out, Savage thought Liz attacked him (lol) and then realized Sherri did it, Savage hugged Liz, we cried our eyes out and we loved the Macho Man again.

Well that does it for me today. Hope you enjoyed this recap of the memorable feud. Stay tuned for my next edition.

Adios.
