Arrow Rate the Musician - Week 3 but really week 4 - Michael Jackson, aHEE-HEE.

Alright, firstly, I just wanna apologise for forgetting about this last week. What with all the hullaballoo around Easter and being on holidays from uni. Also, I forgot because the other topic wasn't at the top of the page. Yes. That'll do.

Anyway, it may or may not surprise you to find out that our psychedelic trip-rockers from last week, THE DOORS, scored a pretty lame 66, especially considering their legacy and such. I was expecting high 70s at least. Well, shows what I know.

So this week, I decided to put pressure on a single individual instead of a whole band, and who better to start off with than the clown prince of pop? He's been black, he's been white, he's been a gross, dead, waxy grey kinda colour. He's been to the top of the pops and back, and then back up again briefly. He was even in a movie where he turned into a bunny on a motorcycle... ladies and gentleman, give it up for Michael Jackson.

If you're Downunder or older, you remember MJ like this.

Everyone else, I'm talking about this guy.

I now take this time to cordially remind you all that we're rating the musician here, not the creepy fetishes and scandals that have nothing to do with his music. However, if you're as bothered by the whole "I want the bones of the Elephant Man" thing as I am, feel free to let that impair your judgment.

Michael Jackson took the world of pop music by storm in 1982 with his second album, Thriller. The CD spawned 7 singles, including Billie Jean, which was the first song by an African-American artist to get regular airplay on MTV. Awesome. Also, the song Thriller was like 13 minutes long, and wound up being the most successful music video ever, even staying at #1 for 37 weeks. That's some serious staying power. He won 8 Grammies in 1984. Then he released Bad, and he was white, and everyone was suspicious. Bad sold like 29 million copies, and was the last album Mikey made with legendary music producer Quincy "Q-ball" Jones. Then came Dangerous, with the self-referential, 'get-off-my-case' song, Black and White, which originally had a violent and sexual video clip that had to be heavily edited due to simulations of Jacko sprogging off. Lovely.

After Dangerous though, his career is notably lackluster and overrun with media scandals involving his children and also, other people's children. He did release a few anthologies and a new album in 2001 called Invincible, which, due to lack of label support, saw Jackson claim the head of Sony music was a racist devil. Awesome. He has a new album scheduled for 2007. Go, white boy.

So hook into him. Michael Jackson: King of Pop or just a Queen in Prince's clothing?
