Scored a fantastic goal and won the group though.
I think England will fare better against teams that actually want to play a bit, they were a lot better against Sweden because Sweden didn't have everyone behind the ball, camped in their own penalty area. The same goes for all the big teams, like Brazil who "haven't performed" yet. Once they get into the knockout rounds and face teams that aren't really set up to defend and then hit them on the break, they'll perform better cos the quality players will have more space and time on the ball in the final third. Players like Joe Cole/Ronaldinho will have time to find a pass and players like Rooney/Ronaldo will have space to make a run and get a shot away, without having to try and get past 11 Trinidadians/Croats standing on the goal line. |
