American Idol

Okay, I don't watch the show, I catch the stray minute or two sometimes tuning into something else. For example, I'm tuning in to see House tonight. So I caught this black chick. And when she gets shot down, she turns all incredibly bitchy.

Now, I'm no expert on this show, but it seems a good portion of the appeal to it is watching some tightass brit rip a bunch of people with no talent to shred. So how stupid do you have to be to go on a show like this and then flip out at the inevitable outcome?

Further, don't these people have friends or family?

I know if I knew anyone as bad as the people I hear on the show, and they said they were going to go try out for Idol, I'd do the humane thing. Actually, it depends on how much I like them--I know of a few people I'd tell to do it, then actually watch the show and hope they made the highlight reel. But really, the question isn't even about the show. It's more "What the fuck are these people thinking?"

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
