3. Even if the first two were not true, no team is going to make a trade of any value if Garnett says, point blank, "I will opt out after this season." The Celtics would have traded their whole future for one season.
4. Kevin Garnett has never, EVER said that he wants to be traded. He has made hints at being frustrated in the past, but he HAS said he would like to stay with Minnesota and that right now he fully intends to start the season in Minnesota.
5. Kevin Garnett is guaranteed $23 million for 2008-09. If he opts out of that season, his new contract would probably give him half that amount. KG would like to win a championship, obviously, but he is very comfortable in Minnesota and making a rediculous amount of money. I would be very, very shocked if he took a giant pay-cut to potentially play for a championship.

Plain and simple, if the Wolves can't get a new deal with Garnett and don't trade him they're idiots. They're taking the risk of having one of the best players in the game walk away and getting nothing for them.
I'm a Red Sox fan, I've seen this happan many times
Side note, whoever was involved in a 3-way from the Suns has said he doesn't want to play in Minnesota or Boston.
big NBA trades are so difficult because of the cap rules... few people understand that.
