Something about the Transformers movie that's fucking with me majorly

Is it me, or were the Transformers the "good guys" (or at least some of them) in the old and new cartoons (I THINK they are in the old ones, most of them I KNOW are good in the new cartoons).

I ask this because I'm having some problems accepting the teasers for the movie that I've been seeing. It's sounding like every last one of them want to kill the Earth or something (kind of like an Independence Day). If they do THAT, then I think they're is going to be a TON of confused people, and even MORE of angry fanboys of the original series and the new ones.

Anyone else having this problem, or can tell me why and if the movie is going about this route?
