Could Yokozuna work today?
Yokozuna's first heel run was fantastic. He won the 93 Rumble by eliminating Savage, beat Bret Hart at Wrestlemania IX (I won't mention that shit with Hogan, though he did later beat Hogan) beat babyface Tatanka, retained his title against Luger, and beat the Undertaker in his own match before finally turning the title back over to Bret Hart at Wrestlemania X. Rikishi may have been able to go down a similar road as a heel champion had he not done it for the Rock (although the crowded main event scene at the time probably wouldn't have permitted a run).
Is there a place for an unstoppable super heavy weight today? We have Khali and Umaga, but the times have changed. We have monthly PPVs instead of five a year, and at least five hours of tv programming a week to fill. Would such a character retain heat? |
