I can't even watch a "good" John Cena match without cringing. I mean, in his "55-minute classic" with HBK (and I've referred to this spot a lot), there was a moment where John Cena had to get his foot on the rope, and it was just done in a way that sucked all the drama out. Instead of selling the move like he was exhausted, and the rope break was a desperation move, when he moved his leg, it was like "look! my foot on on the rope!" Then he continued acting like he was exhausted. His selling is pretty darn awful, and takes you out of the match he is in.

I think the point about Hogan and it being a "real sport" was intended to suggest that fans didn't accept that it was "fake," and because Hogan won, they accepted him as the best. Now people know it is staged, and when one guy wins all the time, it doesn't mean he is the best, it is just because the company loves him.

Management really loves John Cena, and they overproduce him. He has new merchandise every week, and he shills the company, and he really is a professional. That is why John Cena should be a heel right now. Not just because he is getting booed, but because he is a kiss-ass. Honestly, if he was a heel right now, he would be phenomenal. Kind of a cross between Kurt Angle, when he was talking about milk and cookies, and claiming to be a hero; and The Rock, when he was Corporate Champ.

One of my biggest irks in professional wrestling has come to be when the over-produced babyface feuds with authority. I can not buy John Cena as a rebellious face entity, nor could I accept D-Generation X as such, last year. John Cena gets specialised entrances, he gets his own ramps lowered from the ceiling, and he appears on all the commercials, etc. When DX were torturing Coach, they also has the co-operation of the crew, and there was one instance where they used Western music while trapping Coach. It was just like "What the fuck, why did that happen if the company hates DX?" It's really annoying, and makes me hate the charatcers.

Anti-authority works best when the face is left to his own blue collar devices. Stone Cold Steve Austin would drive the monster truck over Vince's limo himself; he drove down, unhooked the hose and sprayed Vince with beer himself. I really loved CM Punk's promo with Vince McMahon on ECW, where he just tore into Vince in a backstage segment. And yes, I did also enjoy it when John Cena and Vince had their little confrontation on RAW the night before that, where Cena slapped Vince for making a reference about sleeping with his mum. There is potential for a Vince vs. Cena feud, but it needs to be well developed, with Vince frustrated at Cena for slapping him after all Vince has done for him. They just can't suddenly go to being enemies.
