The segment that "made" the nWo (Videos Inside)
well obviously Hogan joining the nWo at Bash formed the nWo, but I believe one episode of Nitro in July of 96 really made the nWo and showed perfectly the anything can happen aura that WCW had around that time. I'm actually watching the entire segment right now and had not seen the entire thing since it originally air. Looking back at it 11 years later and 11 years older, I might argue it was the best Nitro segment ever produced.
I'm sure most of you have seen bits and pieces of it before, if not the whole thing. I'm talking about the show where Nash and Hall attacked Anderson, American Males and Rey Mysterio in the back, while there was a huge match between the Horsemen vs Sting/Luger/Savage going on. Basically, for those who have not seen it before, Jimmy Hart, who was part of the Dungeon, comes down to the ring and starts screaming for everyone to get to the back as thier has been an attack. Camera pans to the back and Buff and Anderson are down while Nash and Hall are weilding baseball bats. They attack Riggs next and then Nash throws Mysterio into the trailor in the infamous shot. Then we basically get great performances and production from everyone including the wrestlers, announcers, paremedics, etc... They stopped the show and it was almost played to the audience like any Breaking News story you would see on the news. People were screaming, ambulances and fire trucks came in, and it just came off so real. Some neat things they did was they kept having Rey say he saw 4 guys, not 3. Everyone kept telling him that only 3 guys were in the nWo, but Rey insisted he saw 4. Obviously the Giant was the next guy. Also, Meng came in out of nowhere and got in Benoits face and started shoving him as all this was happening. Benoit kept screaming "Not now" at him. Basically Benoit and the Dungeon were in a heated feud at the time and I thought that was really cool how they managed to increase tension and add another piece to this whole thing 15 minutes later. Anyway, I'm babbling cause I just watched it and it amazed me even today. If you guys can get it, watch the entire thing. This is exactly the kind of this that's lost in wrestling today. 20 Minute Video Segment Last edited by Loose Cannon; 12-08-2007 at 03:46 PM. |
