Galaxy Rangers

I don't remember if anyone else on TPWW is a fan or not, but the 1986 show "The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers" is finally getting a full release, starting in May.

The series is a "Space Western" sort of deal which starred (among others ) Jerry Orbach (RIP) Of Law and Order. The series drew heavily from samurai movies, westerns, and even to some extent contemporary Science Fiction. Despite the premise, though, it really wasn't so much Sci Fi as a Western set in space.

The show had some great depth for a children's cartoon, and even my father remained a fan of it. It had some issues you just don't see in kid's shows, such as issues with Genetic Experimentations (One of the main characters, Goose, is the product of an experiment where all the other subjects went wrong).

Plus, Scarecrow is one of the best cartoon villains ever.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
