Square-Enix is remaking the adventure for the handheld and, according to Japanese magazine Famitsu, it will be ready for release in the winter. There is an official site for the game and although it only features a ticking clock at present, anyone who played the SNES original will recognise the sound from the game. According to Famitsu, Chrono Trigger won't get the same makeover treatment that Final Fantasy III and IV have benefited from. Instead it will be an enhanced port of the SNES original. Still, that's good enough for most fans. Despite never being released in the UK, Chrono Trigger is highly revered by RPG fans. The time-travelling adventure was released in the US and Japan in 1995 and found many admirers thanks to its brilliant story, multiple endings, plot-related sidequests, active-time battle system and detailed graphics. This news would all explain why Chrono Trigger was never released for Virtual Console as part of the Hanabi festival. Square-Enix is expected to officially announce the release soon but, for now, take a look at some screenshots of the SNES original.

After scans of a Famitsu article appeared online, the company has officially announced the game and revealed an all-new dungeon. Set for release in North America in the winter, Chrono Trigger will retain all of the game's original elements while introducing the Touch-Screen functionality of Nintendo DS. There will also be a wireless multiplayer mode and a new dungeon but Square hasn't elaborated further on these new features. Chrono Trigger was never released in the UK but is often hailed as one of the greatest RPGs of all time and the remake once again features Yasunori Mitsudathe's amazing musical score which is the perfect soundtrack to this time travelling adventure. In the game, Crono travels through time to rescue his unfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils. The swashbuckling adventure that ensues soon unveils an evil force set to destroy the world, triggering Crono's race against time to change the course of history and bring about a brighter future. It's a great story and also one that has multiple endings and side-quests.

Heard the game is great so I may get this when it arrives here. I could have sworn it was released in the UK. I'm sure I saw it being played on a PAL SNES.
