internet explorer help

sometimes (most times) when i click a link, a small window pops ups saying "IEXPLORE.exe error" and then all my explorer windows close. Then when I go back and try to open like a window that has a pop-up. Like for example, my inbox from msn messenger. it won't open. So, what the **** is going on
