Connecting laptop to tv

Okay since you guys have been 2 for 2 with my last two questions, let me it 3 for 3.

I'm currently going to be getting a new laptop around May or so, and I am interested in having a laptop that i am able to connect to my tv (so i can view my laptop on my tv).

A couple of questions I'm hoping you can help me out with.

1. I know there are a few ways to connect a laptop to a tv... so which method is the best if:

- I am connecting the laptop for playback on a regular (non-hd) tv?
- I am connecting the laptop for playback on a HDTV?

2. If i am connecting a laptop to a tv..... would the audio play from the computer speakers or the tv speakers? My preference is for the audio to play from the tv speakers. Is there any additional cable connections I would need for this to occur?

3. I assume this would be answered in the previous two questions but, if i am looking for a laptop that can have the ability for playback on a regular tv and/or HDTV..... what input connectors on the laptop should I be looking out for (or would these input connectors on the laptop be standard now)?
