Chono/Austin

Came across this while searching YouTube:

Never knew this happened. What's the story here? Did Austin break Chono's neck (it does look pretty bad)? Was there ever a follow up? How did it affect Chono?

Pretty much what I'm asking is if the description is true:

On September 23rd, 1992, "Stunning" Steve Austin challenged Masahiro Chono for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at New Japan Pro Wrestling's "Battle Hold Arena" event. Towards the end of the match, Chono was going to deliver a tombstone piledriver on Austin, but Austin reversed it and spiked Chono right on his head. Chono was never the same, and the injury is primarily why he adopted a more brawling-based style of wrestling and became the "Black Charisma" heel we all remember and love today.
