I actually thought about that after seeing the trailer. In Donnie Darko, the whole bunny suit is explained at the end. I have a feeling it's not explained in this one.

Luckily though, this will be getting/is going to get no press, it has none of the actors or anyone from the original and it is/will be (I really have no idea if it's out or not lol) straight to DVD so we can just pretend it never happened and DD can still just be it's own movie. Kinda like Dumb and Dumberer and Son of the Mask.
