Austin the wrestler (particularly the '97-'99 Austin) will always be one of my all-time favorites. Granted, all of the Commissioner/Co-GM/Sheriff stuff was stupid, but considering that he's on the very tail-end of his career, I'm not going to harp on it too much. Before all the injuries weighed him down, the man was an incredible worker, drew some of the biggest numbers in wrestling history, and (up till about '02) wasn't afraid to put other guys over. And even then, unlike HHH or Nash, he didn't spend all of his time in the main events, and would usually only have 1 or 2 segments instead of 6. Plus, his shoot interviews are always a treat to read, even if they're not all that convincing at parts.
Williams the person, though, has got to get his shit together. As much of an SCSA mark I am, I can't overlook the fact that he's beaten up women on multiple occasions. I'm dead serious when I say that he should be forced into therapy or at the very least taken to a psychiatrist. That's not exactly something you want to be remembered by. Just look at Jake the Snake; he was awesome in his day, but now all we remember him for is being a coke addict. I really don't want to see the same happen to Austin. Anyways, whatever he does now, whether he decides to step into the ring again or not, here's wishing the best for one of my all-time favorites. |
