Smackdown's problem is not enough face characters in main event. They had to turn Matt Hardy face as insurance in case Jeff left too early than expected. For heels, they have plenty such as Jericho, Kane, and Finlay if they wanted short term feuds.

I think right now their only main faces would be Matt Hardy and Khali (based on being a past champion). They probably have Edge coming back as a face but he might be involved with Jericho while they lost CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, and Rey Mysterio.

Edit: Forgot all about Morrison as a face but WWE isn't pushing him to the main event to fill in for Rey's suspension or Jeff Hardy leaving.
