The U.S. Title sucks

I wasn't impressed with Kofi's run as U.S. Champion. I don't blame Kofi, mind you. He's a great talent with tremendous charisma. He connects with the fans and is an undeniable asset to the roster. I guess this commentary is more about the state of Raw's mid-card. Let's take a look at the last few PPV's.

Hell in a Cell: Kofi (c) d. Jack Swagger and The Miz.
Breaking Point: Kofi (c) d. The Miz
Summerslam: Kofi resting at home in Ghana
Night of Champions Kofi (c) d. MVP, The Miz, Carlito, Primo, and Swagger
The Bash: Kofi resting at home in Jamaica
Extreme Rules: Kofi (c) d. MVP, William Regal, and Matt Hardy

Clearly Kofi is the king of the multi-man match, only having defending his title in a singles match one time. Michael Cole referred to him as a "fighting champion, taking on all comers." Probably because the writers just jammed as many people into Kofi's matches as possible.

Multi-man matches are good when there is a reason to use them and everyone in them has a claim to the title. Not because you don't have anything else to do with your guys and you need to get them on the PPV. This reign doesn't really hurt anybody, but it doesn't really make anybody either. Kofi wore the belt for a few months, had some matches, and now he's done.

Compare that to what's going on with the Intercontinental title. Rey was feuding with Dolph. Now Morrison is feuding with Dolph. It's easy to follow, they're good matches, and at the end of the feud both men will come out a little better for it.
