Spider-Man Reboot

So it looks like Fox is rebooting the Spider-Man series now that Raimi dropped out of #4...

My first thought when I read about this was that they were going to take it in some awful new direction, probably making it "gritty and realistic"...

Turns out I was right. That's exactly what they're doing.

I'm not a big comic book fan, but rather a casual lover of movies in general. But holy shit, this is the worst idea I have ever heard.

The very concept of Spider-Man makes the concept of a gritty, stripped down version of the story a disaster from the get go.

How is anybody going to take the story remotely seriously? Spiderman is such an absurd concept to begin with, taking away the "comic book feel" of it will just serve to highlight this fact.

Thoughts from actual Spider Man fans?
