Weird things about wrestling...
Over the years of watching pro wrestling, and looking at crowds from all over the world via my TV, I've come to notice some things that sort of struck me as odd. Not really big things, but just little anomalies that sort of perplex me.
-The world of pro wrestling is the only one where Canada is the "evil" country, at least in the US. I don't know if the Hart Foundation was responsible for this or not, but in the wrestling world, one of the easiest ways for a Canadian wrestler to get cheap heat is by flaunting the fact that he's Canadian. -Speaking of Canadians, the Canadian and Japanese crowds pride themselves on their love of skilled technical mat-work, but both crowds go nuts for Hulk Hogan. -Japanese fans are dead silent for crazy stuff like Asai Moonsaults, but go crazy when someone locks in an armbar or a stepover toe hold. -The ever-fluctuating effectiveness of chairs (and lots of other things, but I'll go with chairs right now) One night, the Rock takes a single chair shot that's enough to knock him out long enough for the three count and cost him the Title. A few weeks later, he's getting whacked over the head multiple times and getting right back up. -Referees can spot a manager climb onto the ring apron, but can't hear a wrestler entering with theme music blaring, or the subsequent sounds of whatever vicious (and usually noisy) deed is going on directly behind him. Anyone else got some? |
