Missed Opportunity: Diesel at Wrestlemania

It is hard to ignore the raucous crowd reaction that Kevin Nash received when he returned, as Diesel, at the Royal Rumble. It seems, however, that WWE can and is ignoring it for some reason. Recently it was announced that Nash will host a Wrestlemania party in downtown Atlanta along with fellow Klique member Sean Waltman. It is mind boggling that the person who received the loudest reception out of the forty participants in the Rumble is not being utilized at the company’s biggest event.

As interesting as Diesel’s return was, his stare down with Big Show was equally as attention-grabbing. It looks like WWE is setting up some sort of showdown between the Corre and a team lead by Show at Wrestlemania. Nash seems like a perfect fit for this match. He and Big Show have a long history from their days in WCW. Now that Big Daddy Cool is returning to the company as a fan favorite, he could join forces with Show as a means of redemption for nearly ending the Giant’s career with a powerbomb that almost crippled him thirteen years ago.

Diesel would also give the match something it is greatly lacking, microphone skills. None of the Corre members have displayed much verbal prowess and Big Show, while very charismatic and entertaining, is not a wonder on the stick either. Nash’s ability to sell a match with his personality and verbal abilities is just what this one dimensional match needs.

It’s no secret that at this point in his career Diesel is not a mat technician, and frankly he never was. But, if you throw him into a multi-person match, Nash can still get the job done. He is still big, intimidating, and has the star power to give a mid card match the feel of being something special. Diesel is also perfect to be the man to do the job (lose the match) in order to get the Corre over as a legitimate force to be reckoned with. The rub the group would get from beating an established star and legit badass like Kevin Nash would launch the group out of mediocrity and into superstardom. Then WWE could save their current stars from having to lose to a squad of rookies with no Wrestlemania experience.
WWE is really missing out on a great chance to add one more big name to their biggest event and to give the Corre members back some of the momentum they lost since the original Nexus storyline ended.

Agree? Disagree?
