Got a sweet headset, but I'm having issues

When I left college, the radio station had these extra headsets no one was using so I took was given one. It's a beyerdynamic DT 290 and it's comfortable and does work.

But I can't hear myself when I'm talking. During playback, the headphones work fine, but I get nothing in the headset live.

Anyone know what I could do to fix this? If I need a driver, where could I look?

I'm on PC (Dell Inspiron E1505) running Windows XP, if that'll help any.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
