Early sales figures place the Vita at about 1.2 million units sold worldwide so far with the US and European launches being about 600,000 units combined. Software sales is about 2 million but includes both digital and retail games sold combined.

In terms of launches, the UK launch of Vita is about 1/4 to 1/2 of what the PSP had when it launched while the US/European launches manage to tie Japan's total sales in a week.

For more comparisons, both the 3DS and Vita are a bit lower than when the DS and PSP launched. When the PSP launched, the DS was 2nd for the week but when the Vita launched in the US and Europe, the 3DS managed to out sell it by a couple hundred thousand units.
