Stipulation Matches...
I don't know...maybe it's me, but there are far too many stipulation matches floating around. I know Professional Wrestling needs to evolve, and maybe my tastes havn't yet, but it seems to me like many people on these boards and people in the WWE use stipulation matches as a quick fix. I remember back when not only was it rare to have a stipulation match...it meant something.
Case and point. Hell in a Cell...originally used to have Undertaker literally teach Shawn Michaels what Hell was about. Now used whenever WWE realises they are booking the same match for the 50th time so they try to throw a bit of flavoring on it. Cage matches where used back in the day when a wrestling would continiously run away or get other people to interfere...basically it meant that it would be One on One to the finish...now it is thrown around like a toy. And a big one that bugs me about lot of people here...Ladder matches. Any high flyer you guys see it seems you want to see them in a ladder match....I have even heard someone suggest a 20 man Cruiserweightt Ladder Match. but by doing this, it cheapens it. There is no need to throw a ladder in the mix when two men can do a perfectly good match on their own. And eventually you are bound to run into some people who literally kill of the credability....(See: Big Bossman and Hell in a Cell) So maybe it's just me, maybe I am too old fassioned, maybe I need to update my views, but it seems to me that maybe we look to special matches as a quick fix, when deep down the problem may be deeper then just finding a special stipulation. |
