Pretty much this. Hartford is considered to be the halfway point between Boston and New York, and it essentially acts as the divider line between Red Sox and Yankee fans as well.

On the rare occasion that both teams are good or at least respectable (98-01, 05-08, etc.), there's normally some playful banter between Mets and Yankees fans. But now that only seems to exist during the Subway Series. Even my most harshest of Yankee fan friends don't really see the point in ripping on the Mets fans anymore since they are just so bad.
