So buying out the majority of his competition and whittling down the amount of possible competitors (and by default, alternatives) wasn't a major part of his success? Ok...

Vince seems to have the delusion that he is all the things people say he is, yet has never been successful outside of "sports entertainment". Just seems every so often he likes to wank away money on a concept that has 1 foot in the grave from the moment its conceived. Of course being surrounded by yes men is probably a major part of him believing his own bs.
