The idea, I imagine is that having the smack down title holder in the match boosts its significance. Never mind the fact that the act itself devalues the title, making the whole thing pointless.

But that’s been WWE’s m.o. for a while now. Use the titles as props to elevate talent and storylines, despite the fact that it should be the other way around. But they’re too creatively bankrupt to do it any other way. Although it’s probably more accurate that they just don’t care. As long as they’re making a profit and their investors are happy, then why the fuck should they put in the work to make a quality product, right?
