This is how AEW should have brought in Jeff Hardy

I’m going to AEW a little help. Normally I can’t even be bothered fantasy booking their stuff because it’s just not…engaging enough. I can’t imagine a world where this thing gains enough traction without it being a completely different thing. But sometimes a moment of inspiration hits. Here’s how I would have brought in Jeff Hardy:

At Revolution, MJF beats CM Punk in the Dog Collar Match. He goes on to challenge Adam Page at Double or Nothing. MJF can cut the promos to position people behind Page. They were involved in the very first AEW match at DON year one, and they had the segment with Bret Hart later in the show. You see if you can get Bret to present the AEW World Title to the winner of MJF vs. Page — 3 Years in the Making.

Punk has lost and cuts a promo on Dynamite admitting that maybe he’s lost a little spark that he needs to really hang with the ruthless here in AEW. Jeff Hardy comes out and confronts Punk. He’s not a great promo, but his points are pretty simple. “13 years ago you beat me and kicked me out of a job. That led to some dark times for me. I’ve hated your guts ever since.”

Punk tells Jeff that he’s trying to be a better person. He’s glad Jeff’s here so he can say sorry to his face. He cut some corners when he was younger because in his mind, the end justified the means. MJF’s gonna have to confront that at some point like Punk is now. Jeff doesn’t want a bar of it. He never walks away from a fight worth fighting. He left the same job Punk got him fired from to come here and kick his ass, and he has it in his contract that he gets Punk.

Punk: “Don’t make a demon out of me because you’ll end up being chased by your own.”

The feud is basically “Good Guy Punk” willing to wrestle Jeff Hardy but wants him to forgive the past versus a pissed off and focused Jeff Hardy that has been waiting so long to take the fight to this guy. Neither man is inherently “villainous” in their approach. Some people might get involved and point out that when he said he wanted to say sorry to Jeff…Punk didn’t actually say sorry. And others might point out that Jeff has connections with The Hardy Family Office, even though Jeff basically tells Matt to fuck off week one — “I didn’t leave with you because I wanted to do my own thing and move forward. What we did was cool and will live forever, but I’m all about living in the moment.”

Punk vs. Jeff would have been a much bigger deal than Matt & Jeff doing whatever it is they’re about to do. You can build to The Hardys being put back together. If Jeff is going to be mad at CM Punk, it makes sense for him to be mad at him right away.
