The biggest problem..

I have been thinking about this for a while, and it’s not an easy one to articulate.

For me the biggest problem with wrestling is that everyone is now an insider. Every YouTube channel, every comment; it’s all blatantly talking about the “product” and “storyline”. Even the wrestlers themselves are openly discussing that it’s an act. Yes we all know it’s an act but at least the wrestlers should kayfabe - out of respect for their craft.

This makes it even harder to suspend disbelief, and to not predict the ending of the storyline. We know where everything is going because the scripting in wrestling is mostly poor. The beats in the storylines feel contrived, the wrestlers thenselves dont feel like legit threats, the belts mean fuck all. Everything is so plastic in presentation and execution.

Punk and MJF was the only one in recent memory that had us going along for the ride. The twist and turns, reality based promos made it easier to get sucked in.

This out and out disregard for suspension of disbelief kills the enjoyment for the fans who want the thrill or not knowing, of feeling for the wrestler , feeling the perils and triumphs.

What we are left with is backstage drama which is far more interesting than the actual reason we should be into this…
