A correction though, most martial arts do teach some level of dealing with an opponent on the ground, just not enough to be effective with the whole "striker/grappler" issue. There are also arts that teach a lot of "mat moves," but for the most part, you're right. Most of them do not. Many of them are even weak in a clinch

However, they're great if you can stay horizontal in a fight and keep your opponent from clinching you.
